    Dead Antec

Well....I guess it had to happen. The Sonata case came with a Smartpower 450. A couple days ago I noticed that the PC was off. Tried to turn it on.....no luck. No power no lights no nothing.

Well...I just puled it out and opened it up. I have one obviously bulged cap. A Fuhjyyu. The rest are Teapos.

Is it worth replacing the crap caps???? I'd like the practice of soldering, but I guess what I'm asking is the rest of the PS of good enough construction???

not sure if its relevant, but another product made in china that has gone tits up prematurely.

The smartpower has teapos? Interesting, didn't know they did that.

I would replace any and all fuhjyyu caps (may be more than one in there). The teapos are fine in a PSU. Other than the bad caps the antec PSUs are made well.

Now if you get a truepower trio, quattro, earthwatts, neohe, or basiq you don't have crap caps anymore so antec is on my list of good PSUs again with those models.

I like Antecs. I've found Fuhjyyu caps in many power other good vendors supplies. Most of them are bad caps, but very good supplies after a recap.

          Re: Dead Antec

CWT has actually used Teapo in quite a few builds for both Antec and themselves. They just used more Fuhjyyu than Teapo. My SL350 for example had a mix of Fuhjyyu and Teapo.

The Phantoms were even weirder - they're often a mix of Fuhjyyu and Panasonic. Why they didn't just go all Aunt Panny in a fanless and semi fanless design is beyond me.

Yeah...I got some caps on the way. I'll recap it and keep it in my RFI bin. I have one more of these PSs running a C2D board. This one that went was running my AMD dual core board.

            Ahhhhhh.......aren't 'tronics fun???

Have an Antec 450W "SmartPower" that is dead
              by Pentium4
Computer was brought in that wasn't powering up, saw the Stupid Power sitting in there and knew why When plugged in all it gives is a high pitch whine, and when unplugged slowly fades quieter until it's silent. Does this mean that the 5VSB is working? It has an Asia-X cap on the 5VSB and the rest of the caps consist of Teapo, Koshin, Fuhjyyu, the primaries also being Fuhjyyu I dusted it out and removed some glue in it, I'll upload some pics

              Antec SmartPower P.O.S
              by finnland
              Hello everyone.
New here but with old problems it would seem.
Hav hade some problems with some Antec SmartPower PSU this week and was hoping for some inpur. The first one developed a typical squeeling noise of something oscillating in the Stand-By cirquit and had ad drop in the +5V but it was rma yesterday. While that one is away i was lent another SmartPower psu which was said to be in working order. Well, this one is a bit knackered too. Firstly when it was plugged in it made some erratic ticking noises and when fired up it fried my 6 month old hard drive. All the magic blue...

dead antec PSU, small diameter blown caps
              by pablo_h
Hi, I've got a dead PSU, 4 swollen caps are on it.
2 are 6.3v 4700uF caps right next to the 5 v output rails
the other two is a 10v 1000uF and a 10v 2200uF cap, both near a transformer (there's heat marks on the PCB there).

The problem I have is all a smaller than the usual diameter and larger ones wouldn't fit. The 1000uf and 2200uf are 8mm dia (smallest I can find are 10mm), and the 4700uf are 10mm, smallest I can find are 12mm.

I swear that all these manufacturers use crappy fuhjjyu caps because they come in the smallest package. Anyone got model...

Recapping Antec SmartPower SP350 and SP400
              by everell
I have recently acquired two Antec SmartPower psu, SP350 and SP400. The SP350 required a lot of repairs before recapping. The critical 5vsb capacitor esr was greater than 99 on Blue esr meter, so high +5vsb voltage and other component failures. The SP400 critical 5vsb capacitor had esr of .86, still measuring 5 volts. Both had lots and lots of Fuhjyyu capacitors. I have replaced nearly all with Nichicon PW caps, but had to order some of those small diameter ones from topcat.

What remains to be done: the SP350 has Fuhjyyu mains 680 uf/200 volts, and the SP400 has Fuhjyyu mains 820...

Dead Antec PP412X with Bad Caps
              by bgavin
Yet another dead Antec 400w PSU on the bench today. Classic example, full of bulging and leaking Fuhk-yoo caps.

No RMA for this piece of shit. The RMA would arrive loaded with more junk caps, so it is going straight into the land fill.
