Looks like that resistor was in series with VCC going to the PFC IC. PFC IC is shorted. VCC pin is 3ohms to ground with the chip off the board. 5VSB is back with the chip off. Going to order one. I'll be back in a week

Alright, new PFC chip arrived. Put it in, and now seeing 375 on the main cap. Tester stays on steady now, but no 12V yet. More to do!

Anyone have some guidance on where to start tracking down why 12V is missing? I have 5V and 3.3V

The PCB is small and densely populated. To save space, HEC used two vertical boards, one hosting the DC-DC converters that generate the minor rails and one with the FETs that regulate the 12V rail. The heatsinks are large enough to meet the unit's thermal needs without using excessive active cooling, hence keeping noise output low.

The 12V board is right next to the main transformer to minimize energy losses. The platform's design is the typical one: a half-bridge topology on the primary side and an LLC resonant converter. The secondary uses a synchronous rectification scheme for the 12V rail, which feeds a pair of VRMs for the generation of the minor rails
^^That would be a good start

It was my crappy tester again, loose connection. I think it's time to retire it. 12V is present after all! Next step now is to load it and see what happens ๐Ÿคž

It's alive under load! I couldn't have done it without all of you, I learned a lot from this little detour. I feel a lot more confident approaching power supplies now. Big thanks to ะฟั€ัะผะพ, Per Hansson, CapLeaker, and special thanks to c1q3 for getting the ball rolling in the beginning. Sorry trash can, but you're going hungry today! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just a quick recap of everything it took:
                TNY284 chip for 5VSB
                Fusible resistor
                15V Zener diode
                2 transistors
                CM6500UN PFC chip

all because someone dropped a screw in the case.....

Great to hear you got your PSU fixed. Also congratulate yourself for sticking with it. I am sure this thread taught you a few things from different folks on how it works, what to do and learned a few things along the way. Remember the PFC in a PSU needs to work 100% first .

I'm glad that you fixed it. It was pleasure to trying to solve this puzzle even if I lack of experience but there are lots of experts that approved my thought.

                      TV backlight zener diode
                      by unimatrix93
Hello everyone, I'm repairing an LG TV backlight and I noticed some strange behavior when I touching the backlight strip with a missing Zener diode.

So I replaced the leds on the strips and they seemingly working fine, but soon as I touch the strip which has a missing Zener diode the whole backlight turns off for a few seconds and then turns back on.

Is this caused by the missing diode? If so what kind of zener diode should I use to replace it?.

The led strips has 9 6V leds.

I have bought this Zener Diode for this project what size and wattage resistor value do I need to use to get near 50 watt output
I bought this from an eBay seller but unfortunately they only had one

I bought three from Vetco Electronics these are Sylvania ECG5185A 9.1@10w A to Stud what size and watt resistor do I need to use to get near 10 watt output
I bought three of from them to also make battery packs with this output power limit in mind

I want to use this battery pack and turn it into a 9.1 output battery pack output to eliminate using 9 volt battery...

What zener diode might fix the sound on Maestro Mayhem gaming chair?
                      by nev1001
Hi, I'm looking for a bit of help trying to fix the audio unit from a Maestro Mayhem 4.1 gaming chair please.

The chair has a few speakers and vibration motors. All was well, for a while, but now the sound is gone.

It may be significant that I discovered my son was powering it with a 19V laptop charger when it should run on 12V - it did fully work, for bit.

I think an issue could be a zener diode (or capacitor) which has shorted out.

The board's bluetooth input still works, the vibration motors are working, so is the line out socket but not the...

Element 32 inches tv (ELEFW328B) Unknown component: Diode or zener?
                      by Vincenzo2
My Element 32 inches tv (ELEFW328B) lost it's backlight (confirmed with a flashlight test) and the connector on the PCB (it has one board that has a processor chip, switch mode power supply, and backlight circuit) that has the two wires that go to the backlight LED strips has a very low voltage (28-29 volts) when turned ON, in my opinion.

Started testing components and found an SMD diode or zener that is shorted (even zero fusing resistors read a few tens of milliohms, while this thing reads zero).

I put some pictures here to show that it is labeled "M7"....

Yamaha delay D1500, zener diode broken with no marking
                      by debidoobs
                      Hello,

im actually trying to save a d1500 delay from yamaha. I found the service manual but schematic is missing and BOM list is a bit unclear as components listed have no reference linked to the pcbs... In my case, one zener diode was broken (114 code on the pcb in attached file) and couldn't be repaired : it was a zener type package. In the BOM list i found 3 reference on this board : 1S555 (can be replaced by 1N4148), RD4.7EB2 (approx 5v rectifier), RD7.5EB3 (approx 7v rectifier)...

Actually the cathode goes to VCC of sram M5M5118P, without this diode missing, i have...
