    Sick Dell Gx 150 PSU

First I hope I'm posting in the right place. I have a Dell Optiplex GX 150 that was DOA when I bought it on the cheap used. The PSU was dead. Well I got it up and running with another "Junk Parts" PSU. Kc8adu fixed up the little trashed Dell 200 watt PSU for me, and did a wonderful job of it too. In the last two weeks the PSU started running very hot. It heated the optical drives so badly that the Sony DRU-800-A would crash on most DVD burns for unknown reasons. I think some other part or parts in the PSU are failing now. I think all the fans are blowing ok. I'm not the person to take it apart and do magic things to it like Kc can. My question is about my other Junk PSU. I replaced the Dell unit with A Hipro HP-235-NLAXK Rev.01. Is this unit on the Badcaps list of Pig PSU's? Since the PC is running very cool with it, and the bogus burn errors are fixed I just want to leave it in there. Hell the Dell PSU may be a bigger pig than the Hipro. The Hipro is old too. It was in my AMD K6/2 450mhz system. I did take its cover off and the caps looked good in the Hipro so what do you think?

Re: Sick Dell Gx 150 PSU

Hipro PSUs in Dell P4-class machines have been found with bad caps, mostly Arcon and Asiacon brands. They usually work fine after a recap. You can check your PSU for bad caps and recap if necessary.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
        by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

Dell Inspiron 14-5448 - fan turns off and mobo keeps running
        by Felipe_Serra_83
Hi, everyone. First post of an actual repair. I'm a technician but a complete newbie with laptops.

So I got this Dell Inspiron to play with.

No charger, so I connected to my bench PSU.

The laptop also didn't include: hard disk (I added one of my own for testing, see below) and wireless PCB (but I doubt this could have anything to do with this particular failure).

------What it did (and didn't do)------

        1) I turned it on and it powered on. Powered down in 2 seconds by itself.

        2) Removed RAM, changed slot. Same...

Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13250 Bios Unlock
        by Akhlz001
        Hi,

Could someone help trying to unlock this BIOS, seems that Dell have changed the layout of new Dell Pro 8FC8 bioses from checking HXD - 4000 bits do not need changing, only 2000. However after FF the section starting from '01000' upto 2000 bits and then soldering the chip back it seems that the microchip on the motherboard is recovering the bios back to original settings after first boot. Has anyone found a way to crack this extra layer of security Dell have implemented? Seems both HP and Dell have upped bios security to match Lenovo by implementing extra measures on a separate...

Dell Inspiron 5590 Board 18778-1 no charging, charging not possible
        by master3112
I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...

Dell thunderbolt firmware, extracted from dell firmware update exe. Padded to 1MB.

Some models have a choice of 2 different firmwares, it depends on the dell SKU.
