    X-tec ATX-500WB+P4 - popped SAPCON

Heard a sort of snap noise while testing an X-tec ATX-500WB+P4, even though computer kept going

Switched it off as fast as I could, and heard something rattling when I shook the power supply

Looked inside to find one of its SAPCON caps had popped its canister, which was the thing rattling - even though the SAPCON's sleeve remained in place

So overall it felt like a squishy capacitor, albeit one without a top cover

On the right is the second SAPCON that I replaced

Wow! I've never seen anything like it. I've seen the can fly off, but not while still leaving the sleeve with the capacitor's innards inside it.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Very unlikely, but this is an exception.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

              AMAZING!

If only you had a high speed camera inside the power supply to film this .
