    Dead Dell All-In-One PS

I have a Dell All-In-One with no signs of life. I have 120ac coming into the power supply, with no dc volts coming out. It has a proprietary 18pin atx connection, and a replacement ps costs more than the computer is worth. I see no obvious bloated caps or burn spots on the power supply board. Space is tight and power supply appears to be harder than average to work on. Output voltages are marked on the power supply board.
Question: as long as I match up the voltages and jerry-rig a connector, can I use a regular atx power supply to test the computer?
2nd Question: I have repaired a decent number of power supplies, lcd tv's and monitors. Should I attempt to repair the power supply?

Are you getting 120VAC on the two inner pins of the bridge rectifier?

under the chip in the upper left corner, someone has made a mess of the soldering.

an atx supply should be o.k. - compare the pinout - you may be able to just plug it in with the side of the connector overhanging.
      check the pinout first though.

other than that, get datasheets for the chips - look for startup capacitors and change them.
and see what's hiding under the heatsink.

Budm, if the bridge rectifier is in red in this picture, the two inside pins have 0 voltage.

Sounds like you have blown main fuse.
At the AC inlet, the center pin is Ground, the other 2 pins when you use Ohm meter between one of the inner pins of the bridge and one of the pin of the AC inlet, it should show <1 Ohm, do the same test on the other pin of the inlet, it should also show <1 Ohm. Basically each of the AC inlet pins (Hot and Neutral) should have continuity to the two inner pins (AC1, AC2) of the bridge.
The fuse may be cover with black shrink tubing.

Budm, you are right...the main fuse is blown. I have order replacements and will report results when they arrive.

I replaced the main fuse; it immediately blew again. I then used a fuse with a higher amperage and it also blew.

That always happens. Fuses never blow without something else causing it to blow. Sounds like you might have a shorted PFC transistor and/or coil.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Power supply Manson NTP-5561 (5661) LCD controller dead - PIC18F87K90 HEX dump required
                  by Andreas_de
                  Hello!

i got a damaged Manson NTP-5561 (60V, 1,6A DC output) and and the main issue is that the controler IC for the LCD display has a short. The controler IC PIC18F87K90 is mounted on the back of the back of the LCD. Vss-Vdd = 3 Ohm. The 5V and 3,3V power line was killed as well, but that is not a problem. A new LDO 3,3V and 5V 7805 is already ordered.
Replacing the PIC18F87K90 is necessary but that makes no sense without having the HEX dump of the new controler.

Does anybody have such a power supply and could do a HEX dump of the Flash and EEPROM memory?

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                  by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Samsung QE 75 Q 7 FGMTZG Power Supply dead
                  by kevin_allein
Hi, have this Samsung QE 75 Q 7 FGMTZG TV with no function. First analysis shows the power supply board is dead and fuse blown. Power Supply has the number BN94-11439A. I did short circuit test transistor and diodes and those do not appear to have shorts. I must admit I did not look at every single data sheet.
In the TV was some black dust residue, so probably one of the electrolytic caps blew, but they do not show short either.

Does anyone have schematics for that board ?
Any good tip, what could be the issue ?

                  by KYBOSH
I have a floodlight-security camera that recently died on me.

its hardwired to 115v po115v outlet. One evening it simply died. After some troubleshooting (ensuring it had power and ensuring the electronics were actually functional by supplying 5v via usb port) i realized the power supply must be the issue. The supply was noticably warm to the touch even though it was not powering anything.

Trying to understand what i was up against i went looking for others with similar issues and anyone who might have attempted a repair. While a few ppl have had the...
