    Fan speed on Sparkle PSUs

I have two Sparkle FSP300-60PN supplies in my servers which I would like to increase the fan speed on. It is a single 120mm ball bearing fan, but the PSU is running warmer than I'd like, probably because the case fans are more powerful than the one in the PSU.

Does anyone know off hand how the fan speed control works in these units? Is there just a thermistor that I can bypass instead of connecting the fan directly to 12v? I don't want to splice any 12V leads if I don't have to.

Re: Fan speed on Sparkle PSUs

I checked the model on newegg to confirm whether the power supply indeed varies the speed of the fan. I have found out that it does. There are several things you can do, you can somehow bypass the thermistor in it.

A power supply that I threw out in the bin a year ago or so had some trimpots on it. I believed that they were used to manually control the speed of the fan (by varying the resistance). It also had a thermistor in it so I was not sure of the purpose of those trimpots. Possibly this may be the case with this power supply.

Directly connecting it to the 12V lead you be alright as well. If I were to go down that route I would solder on a fan connector so that it will be easy to replace the fan if need be in the future.

How much of a fan speed increase do you need? Some of the Sparkle PSU used fairly poor Yate Loon sleeve bearing fans that may not have such a great lifespan running at high RPM.

Otherwise the fan might still run faster than you need it to at a full 12V, but it will at least be slightly under 12V so long as the fan control circuit is the power source. You could jumper across the thermistor but first you might see if you can get acceptible increase by putting a resistor in parallel with it instead, probably something in the few hundreds of ohms to under 10K, or of course a POT but then you have to have some place to mount it while the resistor could just be tacked & soldered down.

Re: Fan speed on Sparkle PSUs

I have to believe they're thermistor controlled. If I'm playing a graphics-intensive game such as FEAR, it will run at a normal speed for 5 minutes or so, and then speed up. After exiting the game, it will stay sped up for a little while, then spin back down.
        Ludicrous gibs!

Most FSP units i have opened have had a controller board screwed to the secondary heat sink and a thermistor glued on it.
i think you can easily bypass the thermistor with a pot for variable fan control or simply short it for max rpm.

Can not find Model/Value of Thermistor.

            Machine: Autoclave.
            Brand/Model: SANYO MLS-3780
Manual: (Sorry search option not working on this PDF)

Hello guys, this autoclave running with 2 thermistors already connected TH1 and TH3(on CN1,CN2 sockets). One for the water temperture and second one for chamber temperature. But there is another emtpy socket for optional third thermistor CN2 wich is for TH2 for object temperature. I wanna add the third thermistor TH2 to CN2 socket. But i can't figure what model/brand/value i need to use. In manual document, there is no info about TH1 and TH3 model number...

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
            by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
            http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

Suitable replacement IC? .PCB - X_BFJSFANRE_RLED_V4
            by ezenia
            Hello,

I am not sure where exactly to put this thread, so hopefully this is the best place.

I have a USB fan that has suddenly been unable to increase its speed. It's just stuck on the first speed. This fan has 3 speed settings. Each time you press the power button, the speed of the fan should increase.

The way the button works with each press is: Speed 1 > Speed 2 > Speed 3 > OFF

Speed 2 and 3 don't currently work any more.

I suspect the issue might be with what looks to be some kind of driver IC. It is a 16-pin...

Magic chef oven - thermistor ref voltage issue
            by Use2bavolvo
I am having an issue with my wall oven temperature control is ~180f out of spec. The thermistor is measuring correctly but I noticed the ref voltage appears to be off. With the thermistor wires attached it's reading ~3.4vdc with the thermistor disconnected it's around I9.8vdc. my understanding is the temp is read off the resistance from the thermistor which leads me to believe the issue is with the ref voltage.

Another observation is the temp setting and readout at lower temps is way off meaning the oven thinks room temp is 300f and bake relay doesn't engage unless temp setting...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
            by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...
