    Tripp-lite SMART1000LCD not charging, no emergency power!

    I have opened up the case and saw no visible parts / board damage. Initially I removed the battery; measured about 9V. Then I had put it on trickle charge until it got charged to 12v, but problem persisted when I put the battery back. It appears my Smart1000LCD UPS will turn on but it will not charge the single 12v 7AH battery, nor operate in emergency mode. It lights up when powered on, but I’m unable to power test the device (holding power and Speaker button simultaneously).

    Took voltage measurements of battery:
    charge mode: 11.8 DC Volts (in unit)
    battery backup mode: 11.8 DC Volts (in unit)
    battery removed: 12 DC Volts

    I measured 124 AC Volts in both battery and surge side of all outlets, when powered on. Measured zero Volts, when power is off (battery backup mode).

    Not sure if someone has seen the schematic, but I would appreciate it if I could get some help on fixing the charging / discharging circuit.

    Thanks.

    A schematic diagram would be helpful; like to see what point can cause failure for the optoisolator .

      in these UPS i would check all the mosfets and relay's, they are likely to fail

        Thanks. I've started at the 120V input side. Beginning with testing the electrolytic caps:

        C4 680uf 25v ( Jamicon )
        tested bad
        158.6uf
        Vloss= 19.9%
        ESR= 4.95 ohms

        C3 680uf 25v ( Jamicon )
        tested ok
        569.1uf
        Vloss= 1.7%
        ESR= 0.02 ohms

        C19 1000uf 25v (Gemcon)
        tested ok
        973.8uf
        Vloss= 2.1%
        ESR= 0.02 ohms

        diodes D1 thru D5 tested ok

            Found another bad cap C10 (marked 470uf 16v) measured 47.36uf, esr = 136.7 0hms, Vloss = 98.1% and bad R44, with board discoloration (burns) and a lifted pad on R44. R44 measured 47 ohms (marked 10 ohms +- 1%). R44 is across C10, and the lifted pad also connects to D7. Looks like it got hot near K2. D7 and D41 are good.

              Did you get your UPS working? I am having trouble with mine, not charging the battery.

                No, unfortunately, it was shelved because part replacements did not help, and eventually, much later, it got sent to recyclers. Sorry, but I tried. Aside from someone who suggested to check all relays and MOSFETs, I was deeply disappointed that I didn’t get much help for anyone else.

                If you are able to fix yours, please post back and let us know what was done.

                Thanks !

                  ASUS X571 no power : battery issue?
                  by mkdj
                  Hello everyone,

                  Mark and model: ASUS X571
                  Symptoms: not turning on. There is only the LED battery indicator working. The owner of the laptop told me this problem arrived one week after having changed the battery. He then managed to power on the laptop only once, and then it never powered on again.

                  Tests already made:
                  - Battery is charging when laptop is plugged in. The LED battery indicator turns white after a couple of hours of charge, indicating that battery is fully charged. However, laptop won't turn on anyway, with or without AC plug.
                  - I have removed...

                  Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok
                  by techfreak9356
                  I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

                  The ISL88739 & ISL88739AHRZ are a highly versatile combo battery charger
                  configurable for operating as either a Hybrid Power Boost (HPB)
                  charger or a Narrow VDC (NVDC) charger, supporting 2-, 3-, or
                  4-cell batteries. Both configurations allow the battery to work with
                  the adapter together to supply the system load when it exceeds
                  the adapter capability, referred to as system Turbo mode. HPB
                  charger configuration reverse-boosts battery energy to the system
                  bus to help the adapter provide the system power in Turbo mode.

                  HP ELITE X2 1013 G3 weird battery issue
                  by huzo
                  Hi, so the old battery was getting error stated it's capacity is starting too get low and should be replaced, so the customer bought a new one and replaced it, but the new battery was also getting this notice that it's capacity is getting low and should be replaced, so i took the laptop for testing and the battery is charging at the terminal at 8.03V , the voltage of the battery is 7.7V, and drawing around 600mA when charger is put and the laptop is off...so that should be ok... but the bios system test doesn't recognize the battery and can't do the battery test and so is the hp battery manager,...

                  iPad Air A1475 Boot loops after replacing battery
                  by trepachka
                  This iPad was working fine except the battery was not holding charge for more than 40 minutes. I replaced it with a new battery. I haven't glued the battery yet, just inserted it into the slot and held it with battery screw.

                  The iPad was powered on with the new battery and I am getting white screen with Apple logo for about 10 seconds, then the screen turns dark. It then cycles like this forever.

                  I know the battery is working because the iPad continues to boot loop without the charger until it depletes to 0% and the message displays I need to plug in the charger.
