    Glue or bad capcitors?

hmmm can I get a second opinion confirming if these are busted capacitors or if this is just glue for snap-in capacitors?

Basically the unit was working fine, was powered down to move to another room and now wont power back on.

I tested the batteries (52volts at the connecter and 12v on each of the battery terminals) so not faulty batteries.

Basically the mechanical switch to turn on/off depresses halfway out just fine but no lights/fans just wont display any activity at all.

Or does anyone have someone in New York city (I'm in Brooklyn heights) that they can recommend to check out my cyberpower PR2200LCDRTXL2U ups
    ?

I'm comfortable pulling the board and soldering replacement capacitors but out of my league to trouble shoot a circuit.

well that sucks, thanks though Domas, now I have a bigger problem trying to work out what is wrong with this cyberpower PR2200LCDRTXL2U.

Anyone know/want to recommend someone in NYC that can trouble shoot this at a reasonable price that means I don't have to junk it?

Can I see the front panel of this UPS?

Sure, I also took a photo of the top and closeup on the motherboard

So when you plug its power cord into the AC out, do you hear the bypass relay clicks on at all? This unit looks also most like the 1500VA model.
When you remove the front panel, is there circuit board mounted to the removable front panel?

              Its a 2200VA model - Cyberpower PR2200LCDRTXL2U

And nope....no noises, no clicks, no nothing. If someone could tell me which points to test on the switch I'd test it as almost like the mechanical on/off switch doesn't work but it mechanically stops half way etc just fine.

                Re: Glue or bad capcitors?

If it works the same as the 1500VA model, there is a fuse on that main board for the batteries charging circuit (always running to charge the batteries the minute it receives the 120vac input). See if that fuse (long cylinder) is blown or not. If the charging circuit does not work, it not allow the UPS to turn on since it uses the voltage from the charging circuit to feed the power switch button. Disconnect the battery in case it starts working by itself.
Also the direct outlets (the one that do not run off the UPS) on the back do not have any 120vac either, right? You can plug in the desk lamp to find out.
The unit is tightly pack so it is hard to work on, you can remove the RS232 PORT (black box above the main board so you can easily see).
The 1500VA version is known for having bad caps in the charger circuits.

                  Re: Glue or bad capcitors?

In the 2200va unit all 8 power outlets run from the battery (so different to the 1500 which is 3 and 3 I think).

There are 3 fuses (if you see the main heatsing top center the capacitors I thought were faulty are to the right of it then to the right again is the 3 fuses).

They are "blade style" eg like a car fuse. and all 3 are good.

Are you saying there is another fuse near the back? (eg under the Ethernet port?) I couldn't see any back there.

The blade types (fuses use in car) are for the batteries. The fuse F3 on the 1500 board is soldered in.

thanks BudM, the layout is different so i'll have to go and hunt around to see if there is something similar on the board (eg on your photo you seem to only have 2 blade style fuses - top left).

Nope I looked and can only see the 3 blade fuses.....would be easier with a schematic :0

I think i'm going to have to find someone in manhattan who has experience with troubleshooting UPS's for a repair. It could be as simple as a faulty switch but without knowing how to test the various points i'm shooting blindly here.

I dont think that computer company is the right place to call. Mostly they just do software repair for computers.
Call a electronics repair shop instead.
