    possible delta fire hazard.

got this in with a complaint of bad smell.
    usual blown caps.
i tested it and smoke came from under the roach foam.
i didnt leave it run as customer wants it fixed.
any fires seen from a failure under the foam?
i will strip it and fix whatever is burning.i suspect it is a leakage path in the foam itself as the unit runs fine on the tester other than the smoke.

Looks like anti-static foam. Some fool must have added it, as I really doubt any manufacturer would be that stupid.

I have taken apart a few supplies that had foam on the bottom. I think I still have a few of them, but I do not recall off hand the brand(s) or model. I thought it was odd they had foam but I did not think about it smoking or burning. I will keep this in mind for the future. Thanks for sharing.

I've seen lots of PSUs that came with that faom from the factory. Not delta, though.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

            Could you measure its resistance???

Model number of the psu? People always post about the dangerous psus but then they don't mention the model number ... LOL

I have never seen a delta with that foam. My guess is the same as the brown glue, it becomes conductive over time.

I have a Delta DPS-350AB with foam in the same spot. It had bad caps as well. Is it possible for that foam to cause a short?

The foam could carbonize, which makes it somewhat conductive. If there is an arc from that, then the plasma can carry the current very well and there will be a short.

Good to know. Mine gets 5VSB but the fan only flickers for a second when the power button is hit I wonder if the foam caused a short.
