Unknown PSU

Hello All members of badcaps,

I got this PSU with a modded PC, so some parts of the metal case are removed.
I know it is from A Olidata computer. And it had two fans.
The Capacitors are from MK, FULLTEC (some L.ESR series, lol) and Fuhjyyu.
Can someone please give my more information about the wattage, brand, quality etc. ?

Well, it looks quite nice for an old design power supply - the -12v and -5v rails tell you that it's old design. But it has good input filtering, it has connector on pcb for passive pfc, it has actual sockets for fans and not just wires soldered directly on board, it even has inductors for filtering -5v and -12v which are often removed to saved money by other manufacturers, so it's not bad.

Should be quite capable of 200-250w continuously, maybe even 300w.. but it depends on the chips on the heatsinks.

If you tell us what's written on those chips, we may be able to give you more details.

On the big heatsink in the middle are the next chips (from left to right): 40N03GP, STPR1620CT, SB3040PT
The other heatsink has two 13007 chips

The 40N03GP is probably used for 5v standby or to create 3.3v out of 5v (using a switching controller)

STPR1620CT is a 16A ultra fast recovery rectifier, probably for 12v rail. But this could also be for 3.3v and the 12v rectifier could be on the other side of the heatsink.
SB3040PT is a 30A schottky rectifier, probably for 5v

These are Ok parts for the power supply design, cheaper power supplies use worse components.


The two 13007 are old chips, classics, and can do 250-300w like I said, provided they're cooled adequately and the circuitry around them is well made.

There are no more resistors on the back of the heatsink, so yes its probably for the 12v rail. I'm still learning more and more from this useful, great forum.
I will take a look to a second fan, and maybe give it a recap (the cap brands aren't good I think)
Anyway, this PSU have lots of working hours, i'm sure it was at least 5 years old
One more question: wich capacitors do you advise to replace?

The date code on the transformers indicate those transformers were made in the first half of 2005. I'd expect the power supply was built around the same time.

Looks like that could do 300W, maybe, with a headwind.
What's the capacitance of the main 200V capacitors, out of interest?

His are 470uf as in pic?

820uF puts it at high 350W to low 400W on a good day, the ripple will go through the roof much higher than that, which will probably lead to other failures.

Maybe. But good luck keeping the ripple in spec with those output caps.
At least they used an IC for the 5VSB and not that self-oscillating 2-transistor stuff.

That one looks like a Sun Pro built unit. Quite different from what the OP has IMO.
