    How can you be sure the relay is faulty?

      You need to get the brand and model number information, find the datasheet for it online - match every character in the model #, as the characters define what it is. Then either find a place you can buy the same part or find an exact match made by whatever brand a place like Digikey or Newark sells (e.g. American Zettler or Omron or ). If you find the datasheet and find it confusing, post the brand, part # and a link to the datasheet here. I'm sure some one (or several some ones) will be able to help you decipher it.

          We have no idea what your level of experience is. You could be a talented TV technician, or a complete noob. Why not fill us in on some of your skills? How did you come to the conclusion the relay has failed? What symptoms does your TV have? What equipment, if any, do you have available?

            I'M NOT ASKING FOR ANY HELP WITH DIAGNOSING THE BOARD I ASKED IF ANYONE KNEW SOMEONE HERE IN THE US THAT MAY HAVE SOME RELAYS FOR THIS POWER BOARD LIKE I SAID I CAN FIND USED BOARDS ON EBAY BUT IF I BUY A USED BOARD AND INSTALL IT IT MAY LAST ONE DAY AND THEN I'LL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.

            AS FAR AS MY LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE I DON'T THINK IT'S RELEVANT TO THE POST!
            IT DOSEN'T MATTER TO ME IF YOU fixed 17 LCD TVs, 2 LCD monitors and 6 plasma TVs.

              hcd, calm down, please. My post referred to the relay, not the TV or the P/S. Since your OP was about the relay, I didn't think it necessary to specify that you should get the relay part number, etc.. Of course, had you gone to Digikey or Newark (or searched for the companies) you might have learned that American Zettler and Omron make ... relays.

              I've worked in electronics for a little while ... I started when Carter was President. So be a little less defensive and get that TV fixed, 'K?

                Re: Bad power supply relay

                what is the information as printed on the RELAY itself? not the model number of the TV since they could have changed the relay manufacturer for the same board, same model of the TV. They will use the cheapest one they can find.
                The information as printed on the relay will give the coil voltage rating, the contacts rating, etc. Then we can see if you can get the replacement relay that will fit the board.

                      Re: Bad power supply relay

                      Looking around a bit in Digikey, looks like their main relay brands are Omron and Panasonic Electric Works (formerly Aromat), both very good brands.

                      The "bad news" for your search is that there are myriad types and styles of relays. The "good news" is that relays, to a fair degree, are a commodity product - you often/usually can get identical products from multiple vendors. The relay part number will identify:

                      * The series (form factor)

                      * Coil voltage

                      * Contact arrangement (PCB layout, number of poles, number of "throws") and current rating

                        The close up picture of the relay will help, the bottom of the board where the relay is will also help so we can see the footprint of the the relay.

                            Re: Bad power supply relay

                            I received the psu today for a total of 63 + 16 brokerage fees because i live in Canada.Installed it into my Akai PDP42Z5TA Plasma and all is good.For 80 bucks i ended all my headaches of trying to track the psu problem.In my case the TV had the red light on as normal then i would power on the TV and the red light changed to green and would power off in 2 seconds with no chance of being able to test.I unhooked all boards but the problem was still the same.So that lead me to the only problem was within the psu.After searching the net for awhile i came across retechtv which had the psu for way way cheaper than anyone.Really 39.99,I could not believe it.Anyway once again i enjoy this old tv.
