    Re: Amacrox AX650-GLN Free Earth

I did a partial recap on that psu:

    1x100uF 25V Capxon bulging -> 1x100uF 25V Rubycon YXF

    1x2200uF 6.3V Capxon (5vsb) -> 1x1500uF 6.3V Nippon Chemicon KZE (removed from a dead mobo)

My friend wanted to spend no money for that psu to be repaired, so I replaced only the bad caps and used stock caps as replacements.

    Voltages after recap:
    5vsb: 5.12V stable
    -12V: -12.37V - -12.40V
    3.3V: 3.36V stable
    5V: 5.08V stable
    12V: 12.42V - 12.44V

    pc config: Athlon 64 X2 5600+, 2x1GB DDR2 667MHZ, MSI K9N Diamond, MSI 8600 GTS, 2x320GB Seagate Sata 7200 HDD, 2xOptiarc DVD-RW, 5xcase fans with leds.

The psu fan is blowing a lot of air outside the power supply. Definitely not a silent psu.

Fsp psus ar egetting junkier by the hour. They have undersized heatsinks, crap caps, low capacitance crap caps, and are overpirced. The moral of the story: dont buy them.
Ps: my dead ocz stealthxstream looks pretty much exactly the same inside

Am I the only one who finds these filter caps a little undersized for a 650W psu?

Is it nice silicone? Lol jk. Yeah thats what i was thiking. But for tue ridiculous price of some of their products, theu should be better

Ps: i opened my nearly new fsp atx-300pa it has capxon primaries and a mixture of ost and teapo everywhere else. At least there are no fukyuus

Yes because less surface area means that the fan has to rev like a jet engine to prevent the silicone overheating.

Is it reall bad to make the heatsinks so small?

that last cap is obviously on a small circuit board when you replace it you should replace the heatshrink sleeve - it may be used as a heat shield.

i'v seen fsp put that over caps a few times.

FSP and Sirtec/Highpower are really good at using undersized heatsinks.

Ok! Someone agreeS that sometimes fsp uses inadequate heatsinks and shit caps! Yay!

Heatsinks appear to be undersized for this wattage, and CapXon and OST electrolytics are known bad units.

Yeah i always wonderabout faps use of ti yheatsinks but anyway mydead ocz stealthxstream is based of that same design

Fsp is decent (not great) but they use crap caps. Replace all the capxons and blow it out well with an air compressor. Then it will be a good psu.
And yes the caps are casuing the voltage fluctuations

    Amacrox AX650-GLN Free Earth

A very good friend has trouble with his desktop.

When he presses the button the fans spin but it never boots.

I checked the voltages with a multimeter and found they were continuously fluctuating, so I tried another power supply and then his computer booted normally.

The faulty psu is an Amacrox AX650-GLN and the OEM is FSP.

After I opened it I found 2 bulging capacitors. Here is the capacitor list of the power supply and some photos:

    Capacitor List

    1x470uF 420V Capxon
    1x22uF 50V Teapo
    1x2.2uF 50V Teapo?
    1x100uF 25V Capxon BULGED
    1x47uF 25V Teapo
    5vsb:
    2x2200uF 6.3V Capxon 1 BULGED
    -12V:
    1x1x1000uF 16V Capxon
    3.3V:
    2x2200uF 6.3V Capxon
    5v:
    2x1000uF 16V Capxon
    12V:
    2X2200uF 16V OST

    1X16V Capxon

Is that a good psu? Is it able to do 650Watt without ripple going out of specs?

Do you think the voltage fluctuation is related to the bulging caps?

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
    by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

IBM NetVista Pentium III - USI Motherboard w/ Teapo SC
    by iMic
    Hi folks,

I have a couple of IBM NetVista desktop computers from around 2000-2001. They have Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) Pro286i motherboards, 733MHz Pentium III processors, and a whole bunch of bad Teapo capacitors. One board has visibly bad and venting capacitors, while the other doesn't look too bad so far.

The board with venting caps works fine, while the good looking board occasionally refuses to power on unless it's left for about 30 seconds after connecting the power - even with a known good power supply. (I am however aware I'll need to check the PSU...

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
    by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
    http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

Connecting an isolation to mains earth
    by Nevillet
    Hi All,

I have acquired a hefty isolation transformer for use on(under) the bench and have a question about earth bonding.

Apart from the live & neutral connections, should the transformer itself be connected to mains earth?

If so, should the device under test, powered by the IT also be connected to the transformer earth?

    Many thanks in advance.
