@ everell: Nope, took it apart entirely. I thought i said already i decided it's not worth fixing.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

Re: Antec SL350P worth fixing?
Hey, i hav a queation for you the_unique (too lazy to put the 3s in there), are any of the components inside a psu suitable for any part of the psu loader?ive got a coil or 2, 2 small resistors, and a bunch of those black things that were screwed to the heatsinks. And of course i Have a few of the salvaged heatsinks. I also have the completely empty case of a hipro atx psu where i could put the stuff into. Would that work??? Thanks!Comment

Re: Antec SL350P worth fixing?
You can use multiple of those minimum load resistors in parallel, strap 'em to a heatsink and watercool them (ie toss them into a bucket of water). They don't take more than 10 minutes at a time (then you'll have to change the water), but should be enough to help you figure out a thing or two.
As for "the black things", the diodes (the ones on the secondary) aren't suitable, the transistors maybe, but they have too low current capability for 12v use, they are designed for mains voltage and relatively low current compared to the output of a typical PC power supply.
Don't worry, i haven't aborted my load tester project. I'm soon to receive a FREE big heatsink and i already earned bout $80 more, so it should be completed in about a month.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

Re: Antec SL350P worth fixing?
I'm also working on mine. Got a case sorted and the heatsinks, as well as a few of the load resistors. Just got to get the rest of the resistors and some good thermal epoxy to stick 'em to the heatsinks, and some switches so I can turn certain resistors on and off to adjust the load and I should be done.
Oh, and about antec smartpowers, I NEVER re-cap them. I just scavenge the heatsinks and fans and whatever else I decide might be usefull and junk them. They always make a really annoying high pitched squeal after the re-cap.Last edited by c_hegge; 10-25-2010, 05:09 AM.I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Re: Antec SL350P worth fixing?
why would they do a squeal after recap? has a component be damaged by the bad caps?
btw im sort of hating my antec smart power 350w (not recapped yet)...
because i decided to touch the primary heatsink while it was on to se if it was getting hot-not exactly a good idea...
ill have to be more careful about having psus plugged in and i now know not to touch the heatsinks
i didnt fly across the room, it wasnt that dramatic, but it felt RELLY weird
also, i have some other resistorsthat i will look at the spcs and see if they will be helpful in this project!
will an empty psu case create enough airflow?Last edited by shovenose; 10-25-2010, 07:08 AM.Comment

Re: Antec SL350P worth fixing?
tbh i thik smartpower are junk, truepower are the good ones.
i have both.
the only reason i have not scrapped the smartpower is because it's a modular case and i cant bring myself to scrapping it.
that could change - every time i look at the size of the cap-list and the cost of the fet i get the urge to switch the iron on and get the electric screwdriver out!Comment

Re: Antec SL350P worth fixing?
A friend has an UPS that says on the board "The heatsinks are not grounded and present risk of electric shock. Test before touching." This is something that you should ALWAYS do on any heatsink in any high voltage device.
I've gotten zapped quite a few times myself, and it was always due to carelessness. So watch your fingers mkay?Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

by iamwiseHi all, I picked up a liquid damaged Asus TUF Gaming F15, does not power on, model FX506HM-HN004T.
Ive gone as far as removing the case and doing a visual check, there is no visible corrision, upon plugging in the power brick a single led light shows that power is plugged in, but no display or fans, the PCH chipset gets warm/hot to the touch, could this mean its not fixable or do I proceed and remove the motherboard completely and check further for shorts etc, failing that should I just take it to a service centre and go from there

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

I have a multimeter and basically no electrical fixing knowledge.
I came across a post on here describing the same issue if it helps y'all help me. -> https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...500-done-today

by madyoyoHi
I have a Samsung QE55Q65B with a seemingly common problem: it turn off and back on after a few seconds, (sometimes more, and in rare instances works for hours). D001 on the left side of the panel is very hot. I may be able to remove it with a very fine iron, but i don't have the equipment to re-solder such small parts.
Is there a risk to run the tv without this diodes diodes? And is it worth to pay someone else to replace it. I read many people who ended up with bad lines after trying to remove/replace them, , or the panel failing in another way, so i want to weight... - Loading...
