    Dell 5420 - XMC 25RH256CXIQ Can't read bios

    Hi All,

    Looking for from help/guidance.

I have a CH341a (3.3v modified) trying to read bios from a Dell Latitude 5420 with a XMC 25RH256CXIQ bios chip.

I have read many articles in this forum including
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1140467

but nothing seems to be working.

When connecting the clip to the chip, the ch341a indicates chip is not detected. The chip is on the board and I have disconnected power and the battery.

Any other thoughts on what I could try?

    Thanks

The bios chip is a WSON8 package. What clip do you have,is it a SOP8 clip,if so it will not work, you will damage the chip. You can get a WSON8 pogo pin adapter on aliexpress, amazon, ebay

        Re: Dell 5420 - XMC 25RH256CXIQ Can't read bios

After getting my WSON8 probe, I was able to read the BIOS chip. One concern I have is that each time I read the BIOS and run the command "certutil -hashfile filename.bin MD5", I get a different checksum as a result. Does that indicate an issue?

My BIOS chip is a XMC 25RH256CXIQ PPE46700 01 2121U in a Dell 5420 with the motherboard info as:
        Motherboard info:
        GDF40 LA-K491P
        Rev: 3.0(A02)
        2021-04-28

        Copyright 2020
        Rev: A02
        PWB:67X1G

In reading the BIOS chip, I used a CH341a programmer, V1.7 (with the voltage switch), a WSON8 probe and NeoProgrammer v2.2.0.10. Since it does not have the XMC BIOS chip in its DB, I selected the MX25L25635E chip as the base. Does that seem like it would work?

On the off chance this is not an issue, I have added the dump file from the first read of the BIOS. If someone could help me remove the admin password, it would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure what "Backup Fault" is and how to correct it. If you could elaborate some on this, it would be much appreciated.

Your backup file is not good, the problem is still from your programmer, in general it gave out a junk file.

                        by zenius
Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

Dell 9010 MT BIOS Update Always Fails
                        by mikeybass
Hi, I hope some one has some advice for me. I searched the forums but didn't see anything relevant. I acquired two identical Dell 9010 Mid Tower computers from a business office upgrade (they were going to throw them out). Both of them have the same motherboard (00F82W). One of them works flawlessly. The other one had a corrupted BIOS. I tried flashing numerous main BIOS and EC files from the internet, but none of them worked. I decided to copy the main BIOS and EC from the working 9010 computer and successfully flashed the corrupted BIOS. This got the computer able to boot again and run norm...

Help with BIOS update on Dell G15 5515 after chip replacement
                        by capoplays
                        Hey everyone,

I recently bought a Dell G15 5515 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and 3060 RTX. The BIOS chip on it was dead, and my hardware guy replaced the chip. After that, everything was working fine.

The BIOS is currently at version 1.22.1, and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest BIOS version from Dell Support using my ST: FQZMYJ3, but when I tried to run it, it says "unsupported system." I asked my tech guy what he did, and he said he took the chip from another board and flashed it onto mine.

When I check the BIOS using the F12 menu Flash...

                        by Akhlz001
                        Hi,

Could someone help trying to unlock this BIOS, seems that Dell have changed the layout of new Dell Pro 8FC8 bioses from checking HXD - 4000 bits do not need changing, only 2000. However after FF the section starting from '01000' upto 2000 bits and then soldering the chip back it seems that the microchip on the motherboard is recovering the bios back to original settings after first boot. Has anyone found a way to crack this extra layer of security Dell have implemented? Seems both HP and Dell have upped bios security to match Lenovo by implementing extra measures on a separate...

Dell Latitude 5431 issues with dumping bios
                        by Sathsul
So, i kinda spend significant ammount of the last couple of days trying to flash a new bios, and or unlocking the current bios password with little to no results.
The whole thing started with it being the 8fc8 bios, i found the tools to unlock that but i needed a bios dump. So i pursued that, im at a point where i dessoudered the chip, and succesfully soudered it to the ch341, dumped whatever was on it.
However, the tools supposed to unlock the 8fc8 say that there is no 8fc8 hex inside. And when i followed diffrent tutorials to just flash a new bios onto the chip i got stuck on the...
