    Elitebook 840 G8 bios corrupted?

    Hello,

    After unsuccessfully trying to unlock password on 840 G8, i ordered from ebay new chips from ******** user
    1. He sent me first set of chips, correctly soldered them and laptop would not turn on.
    2. i backed up my original chips (laptop would boot but bios locked) using CH341A, chips still soldered down on motherboard (maybe first mistake);
    3. I was unsuccessfull trying to unlock with RC Unlocker (Wrong chip, try reading and unlocking 16MB chip)
    4. Same chip provider told me to try write ''unlocked data'' to OEM chips >> no luck
    5. Tried to write again original data on original chips >> no luck
    6. Sent me replacement chips >> Caps lock blink 7 times
    ps: waiting for ezp2023 programmer to arrive
    What can i do now?
    Thanks!

    You have wasted your money in vain, the Ec filemiansh621 sent you is ok, it can completely unlock your bios.
    The problem as I speculate, when using the clamp you carelessly damaged a few components around the pins of the SPI chip, they are very small.

      I haven't used clamp as it is not possible here, we soldered jump wires to each pin initially; Then we used heat gun to remove and replace; All components are there;
      In the end, are both chips needed to be patched or just the one placed at 45 degrees on back? (EC i guess)

        Just EC chip. Change a new blank chip and try again. The heat gun can also blow away small components on the motherboard.

          i will try again with original chip rewritten with miansh621 file and then with send chip. I'll update this thread;

          Thing is now, it may be that even my Bios data is corrupted but i am not sure of that. Is he 7 blinks any hint if bios is ok or not?

            Sorry for the double post but as promised here's my update:
            I have eventually successfully bring this bad boy back to life;
            Tips for other newbies like me:
            * Get/borrow a hot air soldering station;
            * you can use CH341A to read both bios and EC rom, however to write on it you have to desolder it. At least in my case it seems other components interfere with writing
            * A better sollution is to get an EZP2023+ programmer (20$) + WSON8 adapter from aliexpress (5$);
            * Backup EC ROM. Backup again. Make sure both backups have same checksum
            * Wipe EC rom, write back the new unlocked EC ROM.
            * Enjoy
