              Hi,
I have been given a Dell Latitude from a family member that I'm trying to recover into a useable laptop, as it's currently password protected and completely locked down. I have tried to obtain a viable password from https://beta.bios-pw.org/ using the laptop serial number (with suffix xxxxxxx-8FC8) but nothing would work for me. So now I am trying to read the current BIOS off the device before attempting to follow the guidelines on this forum to refresh the BIOS to something that works again. However, I'm having real problems reading the existing BIOS from the chip as it's a WSON8 (very low-level) IC with pins that are very difficult to get at. I have a XGecu TL866 II Plus programmer that perports to support the chip - a GigaDevice GD25B256D WSON8.

With a bit of ingenuity, and a lot of patience, I have 3-D printed an adapter that sits tightly on the chip, holding 1mm pogo pins to each leg of the IC. With this wired-up to my programmer and a bit of trial and error, I finally got it to (apparently) perform a full read of the chip which appeared to complete successfully. The software I'm using is Xgpro v12.67. But when it completes the read there is nothing other than "FF"'s in the buffer. So I assume that read was not successful. Then I wondered whether the programmer was actually supplying VCC to the chip when attempting the read. So I checked, and it was not. So I then connected an external 3.3v power supply across the relevant pins (pin 4 ground, pin 8 Vcc) and tried again. Unfortunately, there was no change. The programmer indicated it had successfully read the chip but the buffer again had no readable contents.

So I'm somewhat stuck with what to try next and need some help from the experience of this forum. Am I appraoching this in the right way? Should it be possible to read the BIOS from the chip in-situ? Would you expect the programmer should be powering the chip for read/write? I have considered attempting to de-solder the chip from the board to perform the BIOS read/write but have read on the forum that the laptop motherboard is highly multi-layered and requires a LOT of heat to remove. Unfortunately, I only have a cheap-and-cheerful hot air flow solder station. So probably not up to the job. And I don't want to damage the board attempting this, unless a last resort. Even then, I don't (yet) have a WSON8 native adapter for my programmer. So what would you guys suggest?

Very much appreciate any insights into what I'm doing wrong, what I could/should do different, or any other pointers you can offer to get me over this hurdle.

              TIA

solder wires between the programmer and the chip, if you don't have anything to unsolder it and put it in the adapter..

As I stated in the original post …I already soldered wires from the adapter to the chip to power it. Still not reading any legitimate data. (Unless the chip is now actually blank, which I doubt very much.)

                  Hi Guys,

Finally received my T48 to play with it a bit. I'd like ask you to help with Dell 5400 dump with 8FC8 pass.

                  Bios chip is GD25B256DYIG
                  MB: EDC41 LA-G891P Rev 1.0 (A00)
                  ServiceTag: G7PL633

Tried with Rex98 patcher, removed pass but made something wrong with ME - loud fan, highcpu freq. Not happy with it šŸ˜‚.

Looks like I was wrong. Flashed again bios chip with original locked BIOS and fan+CPU issues still persist, so it's not Rex98 app issue. Also learned how to check ME - looks OK. Mainboard might be faulty, needs RMA.
                        Thanks anyway!

                            Just my opinion.

Dell Latitude 5400 Chromebook UEFI bios
                                        by jhanra
Hi there masters, recently i got a dell 5400 chromebook and wanted to install windows, i searched the internet and i found out other people also wanting a UEFI bios for this model, i searched there is a R/W legacy, but there are bugs like keyboard/trackpad not working, and hard to install.

so i decided to try to port one, this bios is based on dell 5400 windows version, i am testing this bios for a week now an found only a little to no bug at all in windows 10, or only a minor issue
in windows 11 sound driver compatibility, but overall its ok, for me i can deal with it, šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…...

                                        Dell latitude 5580, motherboard cdp 80 la-e151p

3 amber 3 white blinks. Dell website sais it's problem "bios recovery" and suggested solution "recovery image not found"
                                        (from here https://www.dell.com/support/manuals...e7a&lang=en-us)

I try plugging charger while pressing ctrl+esc, machine turns on, nothing and after 20 seconds it gives 3 amber 3 white blinks again.

Since ssd is replaced and had clean install windows, i've...

Dell Latitude E7270 - Requesting BIOS clean/corrupt? service tag CB00KC2
                                        by TripTop
                                        Hi

i have dell latitude E7270 with following symptoms:
                                        - takes long time to restart.
                                        - sometimes powers on and then off
                                        - sometimes while working it just dies,

From googling online bios clean could possible resolve this?

i was able to save bios and was going to try bios clean myself but get an below error when i drop it in ME analyzer.(unsure whether this sometimes occurs or could be due to bad/corrupt bios)

As ME analyzer gave me an error i just decided to write bios with a cleaned bios from E7270 bios post.
                                        I reinstall...

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this, my Dell G15 Ryzen Edition does not post anymore (black screen, no Windows boot, no BIOS screen) after Windows Update pushed what appears to be a buggy bios image, I've tried the following with no success:

                                        - Receive help from Dell Support (it is out of warranty).
                                        - Disconnect machine from AC power and battery overnight.
                                        - BIOS recovery process
                                        - Connected external display via HDMI
                                        - Disassembled machine and found bios chip, its a Gigadevice 25LR128DSIG (GD25LR128DSIG), at first I tried to get it detected by CH341A (with...
