Hi folks,

Im having the same problem, and just downloaded few BIOS files from this thread.

Except, i am unable to read the BIOS chip with my CH341a clips.

I wonder how others managed to read the chip. Which cable did you guys use?

I tried to unsolder and solder it to the CH341a, but the BIOS chip has a ground pad in the middle, which is making contact with the pins in CH341a.

Any help is appriciated,

Buy a WSON8 adapter, or as a workaround put some tape over the ground pad

Issue: Dell logo only, reboots on battery, CPU gets hot and shuts off after about 35 seconds when charger plugged in, fans don't spin. If power button is pressed when charger is plugged in, fans spin, Dell logo apprears and powers off after about 6 seconds. Tried downloaded BIOS dump and got 3,6 blink pattern (System bios flash incomplete). Customer said they got 2,8 blink pattern (LCD power rail failure)

Hi all,

I have an XPS 13 9300 with some issues.

Originally:
* powers on and keyboard backlight stays on
* is not POSTing
* no Dell logo, screen completely blank
* did respond to BIST which would cycle the colour scheme tests on the panel
* the indicator lights would light up in expected pattern with white LED during BIST, never amber though

I took a backup of the main BIOS using a CH341A (attached to post). I then used the lovely guides here at BadCaps to attempt to clean up the BIOS (I could tell from ME Analyzer that the ME region was buggered). I didn't find an exact ME match but found one that I hoped was close enough (13.0.40.x.x.x instead of 13.0.67.x.x.x) based on reading some posts here about major/minor version differences. I then went to Dells website and downloaded a clean BIOS image, used a combination of HxD, UEFITool and Flash Image Tool to figure out the offset where I replaced my original BIOS with the clean one extracted from Dells EXE.

This resulted in the following, hopefully, clean BIOS (attached to post).

However, upon flashing, I now get different behaviour:

* with battery connected, but no DC, the keyboard backlight turns on and the indicator LEDs turn amber, but only while power button is being pressed in
* with battery and DC connected the backlight turns on and stays on (without even needing to hit power button) but no other signs of life
* does not respond to BIST anymore

I was fully prepared to have done irreversible damage, in exchange for gaining all this knowledge, but was hoping to try and revive it.

I worry that originally, the ME was buggered but the EC was fine, and now it seems maybe I have buggered the EC too?

Any advice would be much appreciated if possible, but I don't think I can take this any further on my own.
