Desolder it if you can,its the most reliable way. You have some adapters for it ? . Do you have the ch341a black edition,can you check the voltage and make sure it hasn`t got 5V on pin 28.You may need to modify it so it only uses 3.3V https://www.chucknemeth.com/usb-devi.../3v-ch341a-mod .Its possible to flash the EC with the ch341a you`ll need to solder wires to the JEC connector.

ive done the mod, i read 3volts on all pins but still i cant read the EC chip for some reason.

if i plug programmer into usb and quickly press read id. it reads id, but on reading nothing. writing nothing

battery is disconnected / power plug disconnected/ motherboard battery disconnected

Check the part number on top of the chip, then do a google search with that part number to make sure it is a bios chip. Look in the schematic as well,search for SPI .

Thanks for ur answer once again, i have got the schematic
But if i press ctrl+f and type SPI. i can only find the 128mbit ( 25b128cs1g )
i cant seem to find the EC in the schematics ?

if i check the other chips under the microscope i can see 2 chips with 80,
25q80csig.

The GD25B128C is the bios chip. Notice the Mb ,the capital M means Mega,and the lower case b means bits. Divide 128 by 8 to get 16.Its 16MB ,with a capital B for bytes, MegaBytes.

GD25B128C 128Mb 2.7V-3.6V 128Mb = 16MB .Bits and bytes are all confusing.

haha alright i might have figured it out 25q80dvsig is the one i can read and write. i saved the original and flashed the 1.8 now on it including bios 1.8 on the bios chip. il test now and report back

See post #18 posted a few moments before yours. If you made a backup of 25q80dvsig flash it back and leave it well alone.The bios chip in the schematic doesn`t always match with the part number on the board,U4 is the bios chip W25Q128FVSIQ in the schematic.

The 25q80 chips are for the thunderbolt firmware and gpu bios .

Try these.Flash the EC as well if you have a programmer for it.

with just the bios flash the laptop gives 2 red lights, 1 blue.

I said at post #11 the EC can only be flashed through the JEC connector. Whatever you just flashed i hope you made a backup, flash the backup back onto it and leave it alone.Just flash the 16MB bios to the 128 16MB bios chip the GD25B128CSIG

Hello! Can anyone help me by chance. I updated both my alienware 15 r3 and alienware 17 r4 with the 1.4 bios a while back and it broke my intel me which in turn, now my usbs don't work and my pc will not shut down unless held power button. I tried to flash both bios files linked in this thread but no prevail. They both result in 2 red flash followed by 1 blue flash. I reflashed my original backup and now im back where I began. I have done the 3.3v mod also. Any help would be highly appreciated!

just flashed the 1.8 bios from on here and it works but still have the non working usbs and will not shutdown. Will upload my original backup now

Original bios backup with broke ME which disabled my ports and power shutdown. 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller showing up not working in device manager also
