You need a bios chip programmer, you can use CH341A (first make sure stock software does not corrupt reading/writing, if it does, use alternate software), EZP2019 or other programmer. Besides programmer I also recommend a SOP8 clip to prevent desoldering/soldering of bios chip. Some ThinkPad models use a WSON8 chip, which would prevent the use of clip, in this case you can solder wires from chip to programmer PCB adapter.
    What’s the ThinkPad model number?

      it s t480s,

one of our office worker was given this to do remote work during lock down, he had a problem with his ssd, so when i changed the ssd, and tried to boot with usb for new install, i couldnt do f12, went to bios found SVP so cant change anything (edit: worker doesnt remember setting it up, but we never put svp so gotta be someone from his house, or himself lying). I can use usb nvme enclosure to do the job one way or another but was thinking of finding out easy reset procedure. thought this was easy seeing no mention of bios soldering etc... anyways i think i ll look into your suggestion as a future consideration as well, i ll make sure SVP these laptops before handing them over to remote workers next time

It’s a relatively easy job, as long as you use a programmer with SOP8 clip (no soldering required). With some experience it can be done in 30 minutes or less.
In my opinion the most important step is having a backup of original BIOS (read chip and save file, do this 3 times and compare all 3 files to make sure they all match), before trying any patching of the bios.

i ll keep a note of this. and thank you for the help. problem is solved actually without needing anything else... worker provided possible passwords he thought set up. and i tried them with caps on and off, one of them worked... he set up with caps on so i tried by hunch and figured it out. but future issues i ll keep on this.. maybe buy a model with locked bios and figure out with the programmer for practice.

                            new user here.
so, as i understand, i need a bios chip programmer, desolder my bios chip, put it in the programmer, read it and upload it here. then someone can send me a patched archive that i need to write on the chip and will be able to bypass the password verification, right?

does it work for the intel T14 GEN 1?

i've been reading all the posts.
i seen some people talking about "self healing" bios on some models. Is the t14 one of those models? i haven't seen anyone talking about this specific model.

To be able to reset “Error 0199: System security-Security password retry count exceeded” you need to get into Setup/BIOS with Supervisor Password.

                                            by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                                            Some issues
                                            A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                                            Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

                                            Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

                                            Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...
