X1 Yoga 2nd Generation with a BIOS password

    Hello,

I have a X1 Yoga 2nd Generation with a BIOS password. I read the BIOS chip and patched it with the autopatcher. After I flashed the chip, the laptop is not booting anymore. Even I flash the original BIOS back, it is still not booting.

What can be the reason? I attached the original and patched files. I'll be very thankful if anyone can help.

    Best regards

your bios dump wasn't made properly, almost sure because of programmer you used. Ask for SMDFlea, Vesko, hardware1 or peste to help you reconstruct your file, they are masters in this stuff.

that's why i recommend to use another bios chipset for patched file.

      Hello volinakis,

thank you for your response. I'm using a Raspberry Pi and flashrom as programmer. I'll try to reach the masters you mentioned and hope that they can help me.

As @volinakis said your dump file isn't good, I assume that you are using a clip to read the BIOS chip and this isn't the proper way.

If this is your Serial Number "R90PK3FZ" and your CPU is "i7-7600U", you can try that file and see if the device will works or not.

I don't know about flashrom, but you need to verify the chip after flashing the BIOS, or you can read the chip again and compare between the 2 files to see if they are identical or not.

          Hello hardware1,

thank you for directing me to that post. It is luckily the same serial number and CPU! I downloaded that BIOS but now I'm having problems flashing it.

I found out that the chip on that notebook was not fully supported by flashrom software. I wonder how it worked at the first place. I think I need a different programmer, or I need to replace the chip. I'll write here, if I make any progress.

I apologize if I interfere here but if this is the only backup of your chip you have a huge problem your dump does not contain any Me region and also further parts are missing.

It won't work with your dump.

For flashrom I've been using it for a long time, I can only assume that some things didn't work when I read them out.

With flashrom and linux it usually works quite well.

However, I've now bought an Xgpro T48 programmer, which is a lot better than the Ch431A programmer.

            I assume you used that.

Of course it's a question of how often you need it.

I once looked for the exact same model here in the forum and did a ME Clean + Patch.

Maybe this will help you, your original dump won't work like that.

              Hello Markus1741,

thank you for your response and providing an additional dump. I am using Raspberry Pi and flashrom, I attached a picture of my setup. I'm connecting to the Raspberry Pi via SSH and run the flashrom command on the Pi itself. I also have a CH431A (black) but I used it only once, it was slow compared to the Pi and I read that it has some flaws about voltage (3V/5V).

At the moment I cannot read or write to the chip anymore, I think I need to replace it now. The chip model is MX25L12873F, and "flashrom --list-supported" command didn't list that model in my version. I see that the new version of flashrom v1.3 has added the support, but I assume my flashrom is older, I may need to update it. That would explain why the original dump was incomplete.

I think at this point, I have no other choice than to unsolder the chip and replace it with a new one, since it seems completely gone now.

Re: X1 Yoga 2nd Generation with a BIOS password

                Hello all,

I ordered a new MX25L12873F chip, and flashed the BIOS with the dump Markus1741 provided. Unfortunately still the same problem. The light on the power button blinks three times after I plug the power supply in, and that's all. Nothing happens if I press the power button.

As a last resort, I'm thinking to buy the following mainboard:
                https://www.ebay.de/itm/155081966326

Is there any hope to fix that, can I try anything else? Is it possible to use my original dump (which has missing parts) and the other dumps provided in this forum to create a working dump? Or should I order that mainboard for 199 €?

                Thanks and kind regards

[REQUEST] Dell G3 3579 BIOS Password & AMI Protected Range/BIOS Guard Unlock
                    by zenius
Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

Help needed in unlocking BIOS Supervisor password - Lenovo X1 Yoga 5th Gen
                    by baaligoga
                    Good day, everyone!

I'm encountering an issue with my Lenovo X1 Yoga 5th Gen laptop related to the BIOS supervisor password. I'm seeking assistance and guidance from the knowledgeable members of this community in resolving this problem.

I am no expert and cannot perform soldering or unsoldering of the chip from the board. Therefore, I attempted to use an EZP 2023 programmer with a clip to extract the BIOS bin file without removing the BIOS chip from the motherboard. The BIOS chip has the following letters imprinted on it: "Winbond 25Q80DVNIG 2026". I used the...

                    TONGFANG "GM7TG7P" Bios Password Problem?
                    by traxformania
                    Hello,

I'm using TONGFANG "GM7TG7P" model laptop for over 3 years and i'm entering the same bios administrator password everyday. My laptop has Aptio BIOS (American Megatrends, AMI).

But today it's not accepting my password. I'm %100 sure i'm entering the correct password.

I'm trying to reset my bios without success.

                    I tried :

-I removed the BIOS battery and main battery. Waited for a long time but it didn't work. They already stated in the user manual that the password will not be reset even if the batteries...

Hello everyone, I come here to tell you my problem regarding the power-on password. It is not a bios reset demand, and i can't have any access to windows. This is the bios and power-on password that is blocking all other things.

My Omen 15-dh0052nf purchased second-hand was configured with the bios password upon purchase (very simple password :P ).

Having decided to sell it in order to get something more powerful, I reset all BIOS settings and set a blank administrator password. But the power-on password cannot be changed to a blank one so I let the actual password set....
