Hi, I am working on a Hp 15-cs2023ca Laptop, Logic Board # DAG7BMB58C0 REV: C. The motherboard works fine but the USB 2.0 does not work at all & gives Error "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed)" in Windows 10. I checked the 5v & GND, both fine. Checked the coil of TX & RX, resistence between both the point is around 400Khms & no shorts at all. Does this signal come directly from the SOC??? If someone can put in their expertises on this issue, I would appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Re: Hp 15-cs2023ca USB 2.0 not working
Remove all power. Meter in diode mode.
Red meter probe to ground.
Black meter probe to the D+ on the usb connector. What is the measurement?
Repeat with D- on the usb connector (black lead on meter). What is the measurement?
You may have local esd diodes that are damaged. Other faults may be an onboard usb hub controller that links to these ports. Check for the IC nearby.
Check the diode values against a known good USB port on any laptop.Comment

Re: Hp 15-cs2023ca USB 2.0 not working
According to available G7BD schematics (not sure how close it resembles DAG7BMB58C0) the only elements between the ports and the PCH would be the ESDs or USB multiplexer. If you say your USB3 works fine then the multiplexer is out of the way iMHO.
See if USB power stays at steady 5V when you plug devices in.
Go for data lines with oscilloscope and see if they are sound/stable.Comment

Re: Hp 15-cs2023ca USB 2.0 not working
On newer mb's, there is no esd diode/controller . All bypassed by manufacturer to cut costs and hence any surge/malfunction in usb port directly affets the PCH part of SOC. Sad but true.Comment

Re: Hp 15-cs2023ca USB 2.0 not working
Actually that is a good thought to follow.
To rule out software issue try booting off a Linux usb and see if they work there.
I've seen win boxes having usb description read issue while trying to read usb2 devices in usb3 port.Last edited by cruiser_; 09-21-2022, 02:36 AM.Comment

Re: Hp 15-cs2023ca USB 2.0 not working
I mentioned the meter reading for the Data lines, both are almost 400Khms, & the 5v is always present, the voltage is not fluctuating at all, stable as ever. I checked, but there does not seem to be any protection diode. After the coil, the circuit is directly going to the SOC, I am assuming this as I do not have the schematics for this model. I have a used another SSD with fresh Windows 10 on it & still gives "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed)"Comment

Re: Hp 15-cs2023ca USB 2.0 not working
USB+Webcam+Card Reader-not working is a sure indication of shorted SOC(USB part of PCH). So only SOC replacement will solve it. Else , dont waste your time.Comment

Crystal can be tested with DSO. Should be located near to SOC.Comment

by emil_tHello guys. I have a problem with a PNY XLR8 GAMING RTX3090 graphics card. The problem is that it displays and works fine, but the fans don't spin at all. The problem occurred when someone else removed the fans in order to clean it and broke one of the fan connectors. He replaced it himself and after that, it wasn't working anymore. I guess he damaged something else in the process. What i have done so far: I found 2 capacitors next to the connector that were in a bad shape, he must have touched them with his tools - they weren't shorted, but i replaced them with similar ones from a similar card....04-12-2024, 06:54 AM

by kamiewtypeI have a customer machine on my bench right now that's stumped all the techs, so I decided to come here for help.
The specs are:
MPG Z590 Gaming Carbon Wi-Fi (MS-7D06)
Intel core i9-10900kf
2x16gb Corsair Vengeance kit
BIOS ver is E7D06IMS.1B0, from 6/12/2023
The machine was brought in because it would not POST after a GPU upgrade from a GTX 1030 to an RTX 3070. The customer also brought in the original GTX 1030, as well as a GTX 1060 that the machine also wouldn't POST with.
I tested the 1060 and 3070 on my bench (ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming... -
Hi there,
I am looking for help with my broken 980ti. Had a bad DrMos (the bottom one) and replaced it, card worked for a short moment, but I got another shortes DrMos (second one) and replaced that one aswell.
Now I don't measure any shorts, I have 12v, PEX, 5v, 3.3v all working fine (probing points on card), but I can't get any voltage at FBVDDQ or NVVDD probing points.
Where could I check to find the fault?
You think my first DrMos could be bad, because I read that the first one will activate core?
Don't want to replace that one when I can just test other...05-11-2024, 10:41 AM -
by waterchillHey folks, I have this iPad Pro 12,9" 4Gen A2232 here with no charging issue. The main fault was a crossed pins / faulty USB charging port due a bad cable.
So I started to replace this parts:
- replaced usb-c port -> no result
- replaced battery -> no result
- replaced usb-c chip CD3217B12A -> no result
- replaced 343S00326 -> no result
- replaced 343S00327 -> no result
- replaced 343S00328 -> no result
I have no more ideas for this issue. There is no short on the whole board, and the iPad is working fine... -
by Madoy104Hi everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro A1989 that was likely exposed to liquid. It doesn't display an image on the built-in screen, but the screen is backlit (you can't see the Apple logo or any other elements when held up to light). The laptop provides 20V and 1.5-2A, and it works fine when I use it with an external monitor. Currently, the connector for the display (J8500) is disconnected. I'm writing to ask for help in diagnosing the issue. I've heard that when the J8500 is exposed to liquid, the processor pin responsible for the display might short-circuit, and I'd like to know... - Loading...
