820-01598 missing S5 state, power drop every 30 seconds

    Hello all,

    Following situation:

I got a water damaged 820-01598 with slight corrosion on one of the CD3217 surrounding SMDs and on touch bar connector (connector for touch function only, touch bar LCD connector had no corrosion). The only thing I did so far was cleaning the corrosion with isopropanol.

    - Current draw: 20V, 0.04-0.05A
    - PPBUS_G3H: 13,63V
    - All AWAKE and SLPS2R voltages present
    - None of the …S5 voltages present ( no PM_SLP_S5_L, no PP3V3_s5.. )
    - Of course also no ..S4 or lower voltages present.

Additionally, every 30s the following happens for approximately 2-3 seconds:

    - Current falls down to 0A, 20v stays stable
    - PP5V_3GS voltage drops from 5v to 1.8v
    - PPBUS_G3H drops from 13.63v to 13.3v (T2 communication loss I guess)
    - All AWAKE and SLPS2R voltages drops to zero
    - PMU_ACTIVE_READY voltage drops to zero
    - PP20V_USBC voltage stays at 20v all the time

Entering DFU mode is possible but error 9 occurs when trying to revive or recover (due to 30s reboot loop I guess)

Any ideas on how to proceed or at least what could cause this 30s current drops?

Remove F7000 (fuse) and confirm if PPBUS_G3H is stable afterwards.

What is the current draw ?

    Confirm the SSD voltages.

USB-C current draw after F7000 removal:

      5.01V @ 0.009A

      PPBUS_G3H: 0V

      SSD voltages (with F7000 installed):
      I2C_SSD_SCL: 1.8V
      ISNS_SSDNAND_N: 12.63V

No, I meant the voltage of PP0V9_SSD0 and PP2V5_NAND_SSD0

          PP0V9_SSD0: 0.902V
          PP2V5_NAND_SSD0: 2.523V

Both also falling down to 0v every 30s

Following as I have same board and similar issues in regard to no S5 rails present

What is the voltage of PP3V3_G3H_RTC?

Check for shorts to ground on PP3v3_S5 and PP1v8_S5.

Re: 820-01598 missing S5 state, power drop every 30 seconds

                PP3V3_G3H_RTC: 3.31v (constantly, no drop every 30s)

                PP3v3_S5: 97kOhm, no short
                PP1v8_S5: 1.68kOhm, no short

PP3V3_G3H rail is not affected by voltage drop. It has 3.3v constantly.
PP5V_G3S is slowly fading from 5v to 4.7v every 30s (for about 2s, afterwards it jumps back to 5v).
                PP1V8_G3S is jumping from 1.8v to 0v for about 2s every 30s

Review and follow the DFU suggestion here:

                  https://boards.rossmanngroup.com/thr...g-rails.61277/

Sounds exactly like your case. Update this thread with your progress.

Sounds like the same issue, but also no final conclusion.

I'm able to enter DFU but not able to finish both revive or restore. It always shows an error when trying to install.

When connected to 20v supply and/or battery: can not finish due to reboot loop. Error 9

When connected only to 5v only (usb A to C cable) there is no reboot loop or voltage drop, but also no SSD voltage present-> also no DFU update possible. Error 4042

What is the history of this logic board ? Are the NAND flash devices the original?

and review this (same topic again):

Re: 820-01598 missing S5 state, power drop every 30 seconds

History is water damage, no more information.

slight corrosion on one of the CD3217 surrounding SMDs and on touch bar connector. Looks like water only got on the left side of the board.

Main corrosion was on touch bar connector (touch bar display is working, but touch function is not working)

Every part of the board is original. Nothing replaced yet.

I also reviewed your link but couldn´t find anything helpful.

Do you expect the SSD voltages to be present when only providing 5V to the board via USB-C and no battery connected?
