Re: Lenovo Flex 5-14ARE05 - bricked.
Thanks for all your help guys.
Upon further inspection I found the tiniest corrosion on two of the pins on the EC chip. After cleaning I noted that both pins were no longer attached to the pads due to the corrosion.
I jumpered both pins to their respective areas on the logic board and the laptop came back to life.
I restored the original bios so I have ther serial number and windows keys also.
Again thanks for all your suggestions and help.

Re: Can't read 25Q128A SPI chip from a HP 840 G1
I have found NeoProgrammer to be the best software to use with the CH431A as yet.
This can be found here and seems to support alot of chips.

Re: Lenovo Flex 5-14ARE05 - bricked.
Thanks Mon2 and Koby however I have done both to no avail.
I have bought a new chip and restored the original bios on to it. This also made no difference therefore my next step was to try a bios reinstall from USB.
This time the USB activity led flickers for about 5 minutes before turning off. Again though nothing changes after this either.
Thanks for your help an suggestions.

Re: Lenovo Flex 5-14ARE05 - bricked.
I have does this. The light on the USB Flickers for about 6 seconds, then becomes on and stable. After a further second or so it starts to flicker again for around 2 seconds and then stays on. There is no more activity after this.
Thank you

Re: Lenovo Flex 5-14ARE05 - bricked.
Update,
Iv'e checked the inductors on the logic board and I am measuring the following voltages.
12v, 5v, 3.3v, 1.2v, 0.8v.
The CPU does get warm and the fan kicks in to cool it down again.
I have also noticed that pressind Caps lock on / off does nothing, the light stays on.
If I press FN + Space the Caps lock light goes off however I cannot get it to turn back on. FN + Esc toggles the ESC light on and off.
Thank you

Lenovo Flex 5-14ARE05 - bricked.
Hi Everyone,
I have a Lenovo Flex 5 -14ARE05.
The Esc and Caps Lock lights are on, black screen, fans kick in when required and the laptop charges.
From what I have read on here these seem to be the same symptoms that others on here are getting therefore re flashing their bios to cure the problem.
I have tried flashing my bios and a number of bios's from another thread on this site only to end up with exactly the same symptoms, nothing changes no matter which bios I flash.
I am using the CH431A V1.7 which allows me to select 1.8v without an adapter. This I...

Re: iMac A1418 820-00431 no power, LED 1 only lit
The output voltage on pin 7 is relatively 0v.
Pin 2 is 3.3v.
In diode mode on my meter, I don't get any shorts, I cannot relay the exact measurements at this time but can assure they are all above 0.3+ I think maybe 0.5+.
I will measure these tomorrow to be accurate though.
From what I can see, due to having the source albeit 12v and 3.3v I should get a voltage on the gate which I don't.
I will update this thread tomorrow and again when the fet's arrive and I've fitted.

Mon2,
The only thing missing from this thread now is for you to come and solder it for met. (I am kidding)
Thank you so much for your help, I have no idea how you found a supply chain or even a datasheet. I'm usually quite good scouring the internet :-)
Again, many thanks.

Re: iMac A1418 820-00431 no power, LED 1 only lit
Mon2, what an excellent reply. Thank you.
I do believe U8450 is the failure point as I have the source. Unfortunately when I search for a SLG5AP036 (U8450) I cannot find anything, eBay, Aliexpress or just a general Google search. Nobody appears to sell the fet nor is there any data sheets available.
I can buy a board of eBay for £50 but that is a working board not a doner.
Think I'm in catch 22, would have liked to have fixed this board rather than replace it.
Many thanks for your...

Re: iMac A1418 820-00431 no power, LED 1 only lit
Thanks for your reply mon2.
I get 3.3v on PM_EN_FET_P12V_S0 however just by the name of the rail I presumed it should be 12v?
If this rail at (PM_EN_FET_P12V_S0) 3.3v is ok and I'm getting 12v on PP12V_G3H_FET_P12V_S0 then I would have thought I would get an output on FET_EN_P12V_S0 which in turn is the gate for Q8450.
Q8450 is not functioning.
Have I misunderstood you?
Thank you

iMac A1418 820-00431 no power, LED 1 only lit
Hi All,
I have the above board with only the first LED lit. apart from that no signs of power at all.
I have tried another powersupply to no avail.
Upon inspection at U8450 I get the following
PP12V_G3H_FET_P12V_S0 - 12v
PM_EN_FET_P12V_S0 - 3.3v
FET_EN_P12V_S0 - 0v
PM_PGOOD_FET_P12V_S0 - 0v
PP12V_S0_FET - 0v.
Looking at the schematic I cannot see how PM_EN_FET_P12V_S0 is created, prosuming this is supposed to be a 12v line? I can see it's created by U8500 / U8510 however I cannot see why it would produce 12v...

Re: A1708 820-00840 charging issue
Not sure if this helps anyone however the attached pdf contains all the voltages and diode readings for the U7100 on the 820-00840 board.
Please note, the measurements were taken from a fully working board which was removed from the machine and no HDD attached....

Re: A1708 820-00840 charging issue
I've also tested the SAVR_FCCM line from U7100. It's supposed to output 5v according to a working board however I get 0v. Anyone have an idea what U7100 requires to output this line?
I also compared the following lines which are different. Measurements were taken without a HDD
CPUVR_ISUM_P is 0.703v on a good board and 0v on my board
CPUVR_ISUMN_R is 0.701v on a good board and 0v on my board
CPUVR_ISEN1 is 0.691v on a good board and 0v on my board
CPUVR_ISEN2 is 0.688v on a good board and 0v on my board....

Re: A1708 820-00840 charging issue
Just had another A1708 through the door so was able to test CPU_VIDALERT. It still does go high even without a screen attached.

Does the screen have to be connected for CPU_VIDALERT_L to be high?3

Re: A1708 820-00840 charging issue
Think I've just found the answer to that. S3 is a sleep mode therefore the CPU needs a little power to be awake in sleep mode.
So my next question is what voltage should U7100 output on the CPU_VIDALERT_L rail under normal conditions?

Re: A1708 820-00840 charging issue
Thanks Mon2,
But if it's an output from 7100 why would there need to be PP1V_S3 injected into the circuit? Is that for sleep?
Thanks

Re: A1708 820-00840 charging issue
Hi,
Does anybody know if CPU_VIDALERT_L is sent to the CPU or if the CPU sends it to U7100?
Thanks
