    Macbook A1708 EMC3164 battery not detected laptop on when power cable in

    HI everyone i have strange problem i have macbook A1708 battery not detected
    i have change new battery still same, when i plug charger in to laptop it can turn on soon as i take out cable macbook turn off. anyone knows how do i solve this problem?

      Measure the voltage on each pin of the battery connector and post the measurements.

          Hi thanks for quick reply i just want to know battery flex cud be the problem?
          or measure the just other battery pin?

              We are checking the voltage to confirm if the I2C / SMBUS interface lines are ok or if they are strapped. This can halt battery detection / charging.

                      You are quite welcome.

                      To future readers, the fault was the dual ESD diode on the battery pack, D6950.

                      One diode inside the package was fine with a ~3volt reading.

                      The other diode was at 0volts. Removal of this defective diode restored the SMBUS communication (2 lines) with the battery pack.

                      Moving forward, the part should be replaced to protect the same lines in the future.

                      Source the part from a donor board or AliExpress.

                          You can purchase these from any distributor of SEMTECH branded parts.

                          They are available here:

                          (suggest to buy more than you need as these are very very small devices and can easily be lost in the application or rework of the component onto the circuit board)

                              Hi guys, i have weird problem with A1708, laptop does not detect battery, currently I'm using tested new battery, laptop works on it but does not show any details such as percentage, cycle counts etc. and works on it only for like 1-2 minutes with battery cross icon.

                              I've tried new battery flex, no change.

                              PPBUS_G3H 10.9v on battery
                              D6950 - tested fine (replaced also just in case, no change)
                              R5381 - 3.3V (2kOhm)
                              R5380 - 3.3V (2kOhm)

                              R6950 - 10kOhm - 0.08v or 0 (Checked path and fine with connector)
                              On battery data connector...

                              My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

                              Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

                              My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.

                              Hi guys i have a 820-00840 that works fine and boots up as long a battery is not connected. I initially thought it was a bad battery so i went ahead and bought a new battery for it and slapped it in yesterday and realize that the same fault exists. When i screw in the battery and connect the little battery strip and i press the power button it will not power on.At that time If i connect the charger i get fan spin for 10 seconds then stops but the machine won't power on.If i disconnect the little battery strip and re-plug the charger the machine boots as normal.It's not the battery connector strip...

                              Hello, I have a customer that brought this laptop in after replacing his battery. He said his original battery charge was not lasting long, and after replacing the battery with one purchased from iFixit, the charging worked for about 30 minutes and then stopped, and the battery is no longer detected by windows.

                              Hi, I was given this laptop by my uncle who said:
                              • It would occasionally shutdown if not plugged in
                              • battery had been replaced
                              • touchbar would "strobe"
                              I disconnected touch bar components and strobing and sudden shutdowns were fixed. Recent updates were installed to the OS.

                              After fully charging the battery, with bluetooth disabled, no LAN cable and only wifi enabled, the laptop stayed on (screen on) for about 6-8 hours. Allowing screen to turn off while not in use, and it went for over a day.
