Novatech W950BU laptop: Only 1 USB socket out of 4 working

    Hi All,

I have a laptop with only 1 of the 4 USB sockets/jacks working.

The laptop is by a UK supplier called Novatech and the product number is W950BU. I have a USB tester that displays voltage and current and the 3 sockets that do not work have no power (and don't recognise anything plugged in to them either)

There are 2 sockets on the motherboard that don't work and 2 on a daughter board, one of which does work.

Using the Speccy application here is a hardware summary:

    Operating System
    Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
    CPU
    Intel Pentium @ 2.30GHz 33 °C
    Kaby Lake-U/Y 14nm Technology
    RAM
    4.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 797MHz (11-11-11-28)
    Motherboard
    Novatech W94_W95BU (U3E1)
    Graphics
    Generic PnP Monitor (1366x768@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 610 (CLEVO/KAPOK Computer)
    Storage
    232GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (SSD) 24 °C
    29GB USB Device (USB)
    Optical Drives
    No optical disk drives detected
    Audio
    Realtek High Definition Audio[/I]

Here are some pictures of the MB, the MB-USB sockets and the daughter board USB sockets.
The only USB socket that works is the one closest to the audio jack on the daughter board.

Any diagnostic suggestions would be great.

    Many thanks.

    Hi.

Is the attached the same MB as yours ? There is a (paid) service manual with schematics available. Found this in my database.

Each USB port is mated (on good designs anyways) with a current limited USB load switch. The quality of the load switches vary with the wind.

Trace back VBUS to the controller IC noted in the attachment. If 5V enters but does not leave the switch AND the enable is ACTIVE then the USB load switch is damaged and needs to be replaced.

If the board layout matches yours, can post more details from the schematic.

The ENABLE pin is active LOW so confirm if the load switch is being enabled. Fairly sure that it will be a logic LOW (0 v) but if the load switch is blown out, then you will face the issues you have raised.

Possible to convert eMMC Socket to a micro SD Card socket?
          by Isabella91
I have seen many posts where the eMMC can be read via a SD card reader, however can the opposite be achieved?

Read/Write a Micro SD Card from an eMMC Socket.

I have a Motherboard with a Kingston BGA153 ball socket, using HS400 bus mode, which is 8bit, as Micro SD is usually 1bit or 4bit mode, I accept that a loss of speed in read/write will occur, but I would sill like to convert.

Theoretically speaking, Im thinking if I hard solder DAT0-3 from eMMC to SD Card Reader, this should force 4-bit mode, or only DAT0 to force 1-bit mode.

Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket not working.
          by warsztat
Hello, Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket does not work. GH51G LA-L181P, 2x DDR4 RAM, both good, both work well in JDIMM2, neither works in JDIMM1. The laptop displays BIOS, when the JDIMM2 socket is occupied, you can run Linux on USB, then everything seems to work ok, there is internet access and you can browse the contents of the 512 GB SSD in Windows, but starting Windows ends with an eternal spinning circle, maybe there are corrupted files. When the RAM is inserted into the JDIMM1 socket, the laptop starts but there is no image and the downloaded current does not change and the output is ~2.25A....

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
          by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

          CPU socket replacement soldering profile
          by Geomih
Hi All - I am hoping someone can help with some pointers (complete noob here!)

I have recently purchased a Scotle HR460 BGA reball machine (it's a bit old and I think the company no longer exists either), but as far as I can tell it is a competent and unmolested machine that should be good enough for my needs.
My biggest problem is that it came with no profiles, and I must re-create all of them from scratch, something that is very scary for someone that doesn't really know what they are doing.
The simple stuff like a small memory module isn't a big deal because there are

ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?
          by Biessea
          Hi there,

          I'm a technician and a computer/retro computer lover.

I just bought a great Sabertooth motherboard (I really love the colours and the ASUS military scheme) to install a nice FX-8320 from AMD and make a gaming computer with a Geforce GTX 970.

For the first time I had problems with the system, but I solved and then correctly booting, I installed Windows 10 and then I started to overclock the system. I reached a stable configuration of 4,8GHZ with 1,475v.
Then I saved fan configuration, and other parameters, and saved to the overclock profile...
