820-3787 No Backlight (PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT shorted to GND)

Hi, I have an 820-3787 Macbook logic board taken from a 15" Late 2013 Retina A1398 Macbook Pro.

Dim image appears on screen without backlight. Image can be seen by shining bright light through back side of LCD's Apple logo or via external display.

Visually inspected both sides of board for any signs of liquid damage but there did not appear to be any nor were there any signs of damage around backlight circuitry. None of the moisture/liquid indicators were red either.

0V is present at pin 1 of the LCD connector (PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT) while running with LCD plugged in. Checking resistance to GND revealed 30 ohms. I assume this is shorted to GND.

Tested with known good working LCD with same results, no backlight present (0V, 30ohm to GND). Also tested without any LCD connected with similar results.

Does this sound like a bad LCD connector or more of a backlight circuit issue? Don't want to inject voltage and blow anything up

    Boardview and schematics are attached.
    Thanks

30 ohms to ground on backlight output with LCD disconnected is a partial short to ground on the main logic board yes. You could inject voltage but honestly here it's not necessary, there's only a handful of components on backlight output.
For piece of mind you can confirm that D7701 is not shorted (so that you're not measuring a short to ground before it). It is never the problem though.
First inspect very closely LCD connector for any sign of damage/burn. If nothing, remove the 6 capacitors on backlight output rail (just switch them from one of there pad to avoid losing them). If still shorted to ground, take off LCD connector.
And if that doesn't solve it either you have a short to ground inside the PCB, so at that point you can start injecting voltage to try to locate any spot of the PCB that's heating up, and dig to remove the short between layers…

I will do it this way - take off the LCD cable from the board, and measure the resistance again, if the PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT is still shorted (if not the lcd cable is the reason), check the D7701 if it's ok 99.99% one of the five caps (C7715 C7716 C7717 C7718 C7719) is shorted, if the D7701 is bad (shorted) just remove it, and check both pads for short to GND to understand where is the short - before or afrer the diode, if it's before check C7710 C7711 and C7712.

        Yup, shorted cap. Thanks guys!

          I have a similar issue.
Can someone post the locations of the mentioned caps above?
My fuse is fine and have 0v on PIN1

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

              Acer Alienware Nitro 5 (GH51G LA-L181P Rev: 1C) & Dell Alienware M15 (GDP50 LA-k452P Rev:1) - Both Shorted PCH (SRKMA)!
              by reessi
              Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

              I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
              by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

              No Backlight Macbook A1990 820-01041
              by Comp_Pro
              Hello all,

Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.

              Tests performed:

There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
              Fuse F8400 ok
              Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground
              I2C_BKLT_SCL and I2C_BKLT_SDA both measure...

iPad Pro 12.9 5th Gen Backlight Issue
              by cheebster
Hello, got an iPad Pro A2378 12.9 5th gen with no backlight. Got another test unit without screen, tested the screen, still no backlight with the test unit.
Figured out the backlight on the screen was bad, ordred a new backlight from mobilesentrix, *carefully replaced it* without damaging the lcd, oh well.
Final result, issue is still there, the screen has no back lights. So i'm back to square one, with 3 hours less and 100$ out, issue still on the screen.
The panel is still ok, i can see the apple in the middle of the screen when it kicks in, just no backlight.
              Anyone...
