How to confirm if you have a dead super io chip(kbc/ec)

Guys please help, which pins do you check, how to get clues that you have a dead Super IO chip(KBC/EC). What reading you take note of?

I know that your laptop wont charge, you wont have a charging light

The KBC/EC usually controls all leds/fans. The bios rom is also tied to it. Looking at the SPI bus of it may also give you a clue.

Pretty sure you could also look at the LPC bus.

There are no golden rules to be sure that kbc is bad. It depends on platform as well as your diagnostic skills. If all the caps near the kbc shows shorted or there is any pin of kbc shorted to gnd,+3V_EC shorted to gnd, kbc itself getting heated on applying power -its likely to be bad. Sometimes, even rsmrst missing is coz of bad kbc besides smbus, lpc issues.
