  • When you say 1.8V IC is overheating, what do you mean by that? Have you got thermal camera? How hot is it? Also 10V you marked on 1st photo, on cap, that's with battery connected I assume?

  • Asus FX505DV charging issue

    Hi,

I got problem with charger circuit of this bloody laptop (besides other problems but that's not important now). Thing is that with battery disconnected I got charging LED ON.
Laptop doesn't start with charger connected. On battery it turns ON but doesn't POST.
I need to solve charger section 1st before I start to look why it doesn't POST.

On gate of Q8800 I got 12,6V with battery disconnected, with battery connected it's something like 11,80 and rising as it charges.
Basically I got voltage present on battery connector with or without battery....

  • XMG (TongFang) GK7CP6S V1.0 - doesn't power on

Hi, I got XMG branded laptop that doesn't power on. When you press power button nothing happens for like 10 seconds and than just briefly power LED comes on.
In that moment GPU gets power and 2 CPU coils as well. All the time with charger connected, 5V/3.3V are present and all 3 PCH voltages are present which is also bit strange.

I also noticed that 5V controller gets bit hot in the moment (U9 on schematics). I measured bootstrap BST pin 8 got 8.8V. I changed it but with another controller I also got 8.8V.
I don't know if that's normal. I attached part of schematics and...

  • Can anybody tell me what's expected voltage for +NVVDD? My graphic card doesn't work, it's RTX 2070. I got 1.2V on VRAM and 0.813V on NVVDD. Only VBIOS I managed to find with same device ID is from Clevo laptop which is strange, and when I flash it laptop stays black just before loading windows. With that VBIOS my NVVDD voltage is 0.697V. Also not sure why it loses picture when it displays over Intel anyway, at least I think so. However, I was thinking if 0.813V was low too, maybe it needs to be higher.

Anybody got a idea what to check?

  • Re: how to remove black glue in edges of chips in Lenovo laptops?

Best method I found so far is pure mechanical.
Before lifting chip press it few times on every single corner to be sure everything is melted, balls will run away under the chip and glue will also be kinda softer, don't know why. Then lift it with precision razor spatula. Do it gently on every corner while still on infrared ofc. With that method I tend to lift only unused pads.

Also when you clean board or chip, use heatgun and same spatula you used before, don't use soldering iron and wick until...

  • Re: MSI GT75 MS-17A31 no cpu/gpu power

I got another question since I repaired CPU circuit.

Now laptop is powering on but there's no marketing name in bios, it says "please change product name". Issue is that Steelseries engine doesn't recognize keyboard, lights doesn't work and some keys doesn't work either. Could be EC related, I can try to change another EC but not sure how keyboard lights should work at all as there is no keyboard light connector on motherboard. Any ideas?

  • Re: About 3vs out when injected

My suggestion is not to inject 3.3V even if that rail is working on that voltage because who knows what's shorted and 3.3V could end up on something that works on 1.05, 1.35 or similar. Always go with 0.8-0.9 volts 1st.

It's not normal to draw such current both of those chips, check resistance to ground on capacitors around EC or sio how you call it.

  • MSI GT75 MS-17A31 no cpu/gpu power

    Hi friends,

I got msi laptop with all voltages present except on cpu/gpu coils.
So far I changed realtek audio controller which was shorted, EC was bad too, I replaced it and reprogrammed, flashed bios. Result is that power led comes on for about 15-20 seconds, whole board has power including PCH but CPU/GPU doesn't get power. Gpu is mxm, it's removable, without it everything is same. CPU doesn't look shorted, I injected 0.8V on every coil, didn't draw abnormaly high current.

My question is what signals should I trace exactly on PWM controller or some place...

  • Re: Lenovo y520 VRAM replacement

Yeah, I tried that already. Mats returns me "segmentation fault", also reports 155648MB of ram (or similar number, not sure anymore). Same was with old ram....

  • Lenovo y520 VRAM replacement

    Hi everbody,

    I had error code 43 on y520, gtx 1050, 2GB Micron ram.
I assumed it was related to VRAM error as it usually is on y520 (all voltages present), so I replaced it with also Micron, but 8Gb modules, so 4GB in total.

It didn't solve problem. There are some strap resistors (photo attached), originally there was R187, R193 and R194 installed, other 3 was empty. I didn't touched that. As far as I understand that's already configured as L-L-H. Not sure what L-L-M should be.

There is no VBIOS chip on board, I guess those VBIOS files are stored...

  • Re: SR30W compatible replacement

So you want to say regareless 7th gen is rebranded 6th gen, it wont work because of ME firmware and CPU microcode. Both SOC's are very similar. I guess changing both CPU and PCH would do the job but that's silly ofc.

  • Lenovo Rescuer NM-A711 doesn't power on

    Hi,

I got laptop that won't power on, nothing seems to be shorted and only thing that's heating up on board is EC and PU540 (but very slightly, 2 celsius above room temperature). On PU540 pin 13 - VCCIO_PWROK I got around 2.6V which could be bit strange.

I got no V5AL_DS3 present, and I don't know if I should at this point, but there's also no ALWAYS_ON signal present on PU600.

    I got stable +V3_3AL_DS3, EC_V3.3AL, there's no V3_3S on EC.

I checked power button and hall sensor, those are ok.

I tried to flash EC but I couldn't...

  • SR30W compatible replacement

    Hi guys, and ladies

I got several boards with dead PCH SR30W, various laptops (Lenovo y520, MSI ge62vr, etc..), and I got several new SOCs SR2CE and SR2C4. I was wondering if I can use them to replace or not. I noticed both SR30W and SR2C4 was used in very similar machines 6th and 7th gen intel, SR2C4 was usually found on Clevo laptops.

Does anybody know if it's cross compatible?
Would there be any problems with bios, bootguard or something?

Other question is if I can I replace it with PCH or CPU from dead motherboard or there would be problem...

  • Cypress CY8C27543-24AXI programmer

    Hi guys,

I bought faulty Elmasonic S300H ultrasonic cleaner with shorted Cypress microcontroller which I replaced but now machine just turns on with every possible LED on and that's it more or less, it's unresponisive on any button pressed.

I need dump for CY8C27543 which is my 1st problem, other problem is I don't know how to program it and if there's some universal chinese programmer available. I don't want to pay 200USD for original programmer I will probably use once in a lifetime such as Miniprog1 or newer.

If anybody got experience with flashing...

  • Re: Acer VN7-793G missing 3D3V_RTC_AUX

I've removed wire to take a measurements and soldered back the diode, now everything works like it should, I really don't get it. RTC battery is back again, it holds bios settings. Primary battery is charging as well, all drivers installed. I will do more tests but all looks good so far.

Seems like I did some kind of 'system shock' with that wire haha
Or I burned something that was making issue, very strange however.

  • Acer VN7-793G missing 3D3V_RTC_AUX

Hi guys, I got strange issue with this laptop, I bought it as faulty, seller said it doesn't power on and it doesn't charge battery as well, he said like battery is dead or something, doesn't have to be true.

Anyway, I inspected motherboard and I figured out I don't have any voltage present on battery protection switch (SW1) and I got around 0.5V on reset switch. When I press power button 3V3 raises but nothing happens, no fans, no cpu or gpu voltage rises, no post.

I figured out I got no 3D3V_RTC_AUX voltage present, on diode D2501 I get around 0.7V on PIN1 and 0.5V...

  • Re: HP Zbook 15 G3 not powering on

Yeah it was just example, I received board like that with ripped trace and burned EC chip, also one resistor was ripped of the board too. After that "fix" board worked like a charm.
It was just example of soldering skills, nothing else, nothing intellectual, and yes, I believe all soldering joints are done properly, maybe you do it even better and my work is shite to you, I don't know

I will do some more measurements and won't post anything anymore without more info. Thing is I got no time to deal...

  • Re: HP Zbook 15 G3 not powering on

Hi, I don't have board near me at the moment, I work from office every now and then.
I attached example of my work I found in phone gallery so you know you're not talking with complete idiot haha.

So far I changed EC, BQ24780S and 2 input mosfets. When I plug in charger I got only stable voltage (not completely stable, variating like 0.1V up and down) on dc jack, everything behind input mosfets tries to start and goes in protection and nothing seems to be shorted. I just injected 19V after those mosfets on...

  • Re: HP Zbook 15 G3 not powering on

No, nothing happens, CPU doesn't get any power, I told you it draws around 20mA from lab PSU. I don't get why it can't hold voltage with original adapter, it seems like mosfets are going in protection, but if I bypass them with lab supply it draws 20mA, nothing is shorted? That doesn't make any sense. I have changed both mosfets and battery charger IC....
