SMC (Apple) and Super IO / EC / KBC are completely different things.

What do you exactly mean? What Chip?
Nobody is able to help without any information about it.

I think he means kbc on non-apple mobo's.

most likely it's shorting the 3.3 v-rail to ground. for example, you can check caps near the super-i/o for shorts, sometimes the chip itself will get hot if charger is plugged in or you inject voltage. in some cases, the chip is exploded and looks suspicious under the microscope or in macro mode... other things are to check the pins (via datasheet) and compare the readings/voltage-output. especially lenovo systems with the quadrangular charger and destroyed charging port/charger plug have a bad i/o-chip. in this scenario, the 19 v-rail touch the middle pin and will straightly fry the ic. it's just a bad design by the manufacturer...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
              by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
              by double_DD
              Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Asus ROG Ally - Super IO Chip replacement
              by ongobongo
              Hello everyone,
anyone here who has experience with replacing the super IO chip of an ROG ally?
I have one on my bench which has a burnt super io (ITE 5125VG-192). On some devices the super-io downloads it's firmware from BIOS if it's empty. As i don't have a programmer for this chips i hope someone here has already changed the chip and can give me a hint if it's working with an empty chip if it needs external programming.
              Thanks
              Ongo

A: If you can`t read from it how do you expect to write to it ?.

Q: Why is my bios chip unreadable ?.

A: The programmer is faulty or has a worn or broken zif socket.

The USB cable is frayed, connector pins worn or some other physical damage.

              Preflash Super IO chip
              by chickenhawk88
I was wondering if you guys know anyone that sells Super IO chip ITE IT8390-256 flashed with your specific laptop. Im debating to see if this available out there vs buying chip and programmer myself. Right now the chip plus programmer is about $60. But i still need the file that goes on chip. The laptop is RAZER BLADE 15 RZ09-0369.
