Asus ROG Ally - Super IO Chip replacement

    Hello everyone,
anyone here who has experience with replacing the super IO chip of an ROG ally?
I have one on my bench which has a burnt super io (ITE 5125VG-192). On some devices the super-io downloads it's firmware from BIOS if it's empty. As i don't have a programmer for this chips i hope someone here has already changed the chip and can give me a hint if it's working with an empty chip if it needs external programming.
    Thanks

a small update: I ordered a new, pressumably empty EC chip. After desoldering the old one, the problem (1.8ohm short on a cap near ec chip and 3.3v ldo line only providing 2.7V) went away. so I'm pretty confident that the old ec chip was burnt and was the problem.
however, after soldering the new ec chip nothing happens. meter shows solid 20V with 0A current consumption. On the board, only the 3.3V ldo seems to be active, with a derived 1.8V for powering the Bios. Coils look fine ohms-wise, no suspicios shorts.
any ideas where to look next?

Yes, i've replaced IT5125VG on asus ROG motherboard and it doesnt needs programming. It will program itself orst power on. Soldering this type of SIO requires good skill.A slightly higher temp on hot air gun may damage the SIO.
Aligning it perfectly on the mb is another challenge. Are you sure you soldered it correctly and no pcb trace was damaged during cleaning?

Thanks for the heads-up mcpisig123. I hadn't had a problem with soldering BGAs for ages but i took your advise serious. just desoldered, reballed and re-soldered the ec-chip but still no change of problem. Maybe i really am unlucky with the chip itself, that would be a bummer :-( I decided to check the bios, maybe it got faulty by the same fault that destroyed the original ec chip. I just read it and will ask the forum to check it as I have no clue what to look for when it comes to bios
        keep you posted

Was the SIO chip sourced from reliable vendor? A lot of fake chips has flooded the market.

In case this might help people in the future:
The EC-Chip on the ROG ally does indeed programm itself and doesn't need to be programmed ahead of installing. Had some annoying other issues with my console which pointed to a not working EC-chip but where actually just diversions.

Asus Vivobook 15 (board X513ea R2.0) gone dead when user plugged an iPhone cable into the USB-C port during boot. Now there's no LED light, no power at all. I checked all MOSFETs and capacitors, no shorts found. The board only has 3.3V and 5V present, no other voltages.

I injected 3.3V into the EC chip power rail (ITE IT5125VG 128), and it draws 80mA, while the 3.3V LDO chip RT8249C has a max output of 100mA. I checked the boardview and found there are only two chips on this 3.3V rail, EC and Realtek audio chip. So I think EC could be the problem.

                I found the EC chip...

Asus Chromebox CN62 - wrong chip put on BIOS reader
                by BMCappelletti
                Long story short:
                - dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
                - gave the computer to his son a couple years later
                - son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
                - too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)

He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8...

ASRock B650M PRO RS - BIOS CHIP 25Q256JW BLOCKED BY STATUS REGISTERS
                by DynaxSC
                Hi

I have a very strange issue with the BIOS SPI chip of an ASRock B650M PRO RS motherboard.
The SPI chip is an Winbond 25Q256JWEQ model (1V8).
The motherbaord doas not POST - it lits only CPU and DRAM EZ Debug Leds, and stays that way forever.
The Flashback function of the motherbaord is also not working, despite all instructions followed correctly - I'm 100% sure of this.

I have then desoldered the chip, backupped the contents, and tried to earease the chip in order to program stock image, but the chip is locked by status registers SREG2 (TB) and SREG6...
