DAY11AMB6E0 three flashes on dc jack

    Hi

HP laptop, no charging light on dc jack when adaptor inserted. When you press the power button, three flashes on jack, apart from that dead. I checked the 3v &5v coils nothing, both missing enable signals on PU11 and PU12. 3VPCU & 5VPCU, 19v present.

The enable signal S5_ON comes from Super I/O. Checked a few volatges, looks like 3v on pin 11 is missing. Not sure where this comes from, any ideas?

SIO pin11 3V comes after switching 3VS5 , what is the voltage on pin 7&8 PU11, PU12 pin8 ? Check on SIO pin 97 ACIN, is the PR211 CLR getting +19V

      pin 97 ACIN 3v

I injected the enable signal and both coils had 3v & 5v.

      PR211 19v both sides

          pin 67 0v

The machine came with no charger but I'm using a hp adaptor which works ok on other pavillions. Is this the issue?

So it looks like the charger is not detected? I've tried another one and the same problem. Do I need to check the jack pin 5 for AD_ID? If no voltage here, is that a faulty jack?

DC-in LED blinking 3 times mean the AC adapter is not recognized properly or is not the correct power rating.

Yep Piernov is correct you need to check AD_ID?

If the dc jack looks fine with no apparent damage, then problem may be in the mb.

Update - power jack changed and now boots up. But, when I attach the power adaptor I get a white screen before I press the power button. Similarly, I get a white screen when I turn the machine off when power adaptor is attached. So it looks like screen has a direct power line. Should the +3VLCD_CON only come high after the power button is pressed? Apart from that the screen works fine. Any ideas?

White screen usually means backlight is on but power to the LCD is off.
The backlight enable line should go low when the computer is off.

I checked U3 pin44 BL_EN - its low when the machine is off and comes high when i power up.

pin 20 PANEL_VCC low then high on power on
pin 19 PWMOUT initially 5v then drops to 3v on power on

                            does pin 19 set brightness?

Yes, it should be between 0 and 3.3V. Should probably be 0 when the computer is off…

Is the next step to change U3 RTD2136R?
