    HP Pavillon DV6000

    Model dv6152eu

It won't start at the first four-five attempts.
Then start, but no HDD detected.
After 5 minutes in boot menu, it starts working correctly.

    I checked voltage 5V @ HDD - there was only 2,7V
    5V @USB was OK.

I replaced capacitor 100uF/6V - now it starts with no problem!
(I had to use 200 uF/6V - I was not able to buy 100uF for adequate price.)

Was this cap obviously damaged or did you have to test it?

Why I ask is its an unusual cap to blow.

    Congrats on a successful repair!

      Re: HP Pavillon DV6000

Just as a warning, the HP DV**** series notebooks have a serious video problem. The basic is the video chip that is soldered to the mobo doesn't quite touch the Heatsink... typically what happens is it gets so hot, it desolderes some of the BGA points. I have worked on many DV2k, DV6k, and DV9k notebooks that all get this problem.

There is a trick you can try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnkQNmKauEc

I have seen people use a 200watt bulb to reflow the chip. And if you don't have copper around to make a shim, you can always use a penny, but a copper shim would be MUCH better for heat transfer, unless you surfaced the penny flat.

A buddy of mine got a DV2000 with the same problem, but was able to get a updated board directly from HP for around $150. The newer revision board come with a thicker heat spreader on the video chip, so it makes contact better with the heatsink..

      Hope this helps.

        Re: HP Pavillon DV6000

I have tried this trick (hot flux) - it worked for three months only.
Then I sent board for repair into non-authorized HP service, focused on BGA chips repair/reball. They gave me 6-months warranty on repaired board.
They have used +5V from USB as source for fan - no fan control from BIOS.
It is loud, but chipset temperature is pretty cool ~60 °C

Asrock z97x starts then shuts off after 4 seconds, sometimes more, no post
          by chaos-theory
I have a really weird problem, this motherboard was working normally, someday it just started and all fans were running but didn't want to post, tried resetting bios, checking CPU and it was getting warm tried external gpu, flashed bios with programmer, but same problem.
Next day after several attempts the board goes into protection mode, no more staying on, I turn on the PSU fans starts directly turning, it used to not start until I press the pwr button, now it starts directly and fans spins, and shuts off after 3 seconds sometimes less, then won't start again unless I unplug the PSU and...

          Sell or Shim Solar panels?
          by eccerr0r
Well, due to my grid tie inverter not accepting high voltages, and the fact that the lions in my solar panels are 36V (72-cell) I think I need to stick with 72-cell.

However I have a few smaller panels that are 36, 32, and two 30-cell. The 36 and 32 together run at 75% efficiency (and subtract more with additional inefficiencies) when running in parallel with the 72-cell panels. The kicker is that the two 30s... generate 0% power when connected in parallel(!)

So now what to do with these small panels?

          I could sell them...

          Or I could shim them....

Asus Prime B450M-A starts only when 12v 8pin cpu plug disconnected
          by arabex21
Hello everyone. I have been reading this forum for a long time - I really appreciate the amount of very interesting materials and information in the field of electronics.

I have a problem with this configuration:
          ASUS PRIME B450M-A
RYZEN 1300X (I replaced it with ATHLON 200GE - the same behavior, the processors are functional, tested on another board)

When the entire set is installed (CPU, RAM, ATX connector and 12V 8 pin CPU plug), the board starts up for a while (about 1-2 seconds), the CPU fan starts and the board turns off immediately. When I disconnect...

Dell E6420 XFR Rugged starts to boot but after 3 secs shuts down.
          by Shobos
Hi, I bought 6420 XFR that tries to boot but shuts down after about 3 seconds, CPU gets warm, fan starts.
So far I have tested all rails wich are good, BIOS flashed with CH341, 3.3,5, main rail present. multiple ram sticks tested. Sometimes it might stay on for longer like 4-5 seconds but not always, theres no picture whatsoever. Also on some rare occasions the caps lock flashes 1 time by itself.
NOTE: I am using bench power supply not dell charger with ID pin and NO battery present, kinda doubtful this would cause this issue.
Any help is welcome. Thanks !

LG 49UK7550PTA - after couple of hours screen starts to blink
          by JohnML1975
          Hello Forum team

Have this TV; searched for the model and could not anything so thought I would share in here

Had an issue, some years ago, and looks like some placed sticky tape over some of the lines on the FFC cables between the T con and the mainboard
Anyway, the owner, who gave me the TV, says it starts to blink after a few hours

So I removed the covers, and could not see anything visibly
Removed the power supply and thought some of the solder joints, on the hot side, were not the best. I thought some looked like they were cracked.
