K52F REV 2.2 HDD don't turn on nor detected

    Hello,

I have a K52F REV 2.2 motherboard that don't turn on the HDD or detect it. The HDD don't spin or do any turn on noise.
All other functions are working, including the DVD drive, just the HDD part is faulty.
    The tests i have done:

    1) Replace HDD - Same happen
    2) Test Laptop HDD on other computer - Works
    3) Check motherboard sata trace continuity to hdd - All ok
    4) Check voltage lines on HDD connector at SATA - OK (3.3v and 5v present)
    5) Update BIOS - Same happen
    6) Plug or unplug HDD while PC is on - PC auto turn OFF

I don't have an oscilloscope to check the sata data line.
I don't know much about how the HDD should work, but does the hdd require the data line to turn on? aka spin? When i disconnect a data line from a desktop but keep the power the HDD spins.
    What can be wrong here?

    I have attach the datasheet.

If the drive stays turned off it means the communication between drive and mainboard is broken in some way. And yes, in laptops, sometimes drives will not spin if they have improper communication.

If you have not done so already, replace the four coupling capacitors CX5101 thru CX5104. You can get these from another mainboard, they are always next to the SATA ports and they are always the same value. If it still doesn't work after replacing the capacitors, we will go from there.

        Thank you all.
I able to fix the problem, now it boot again.

The CX5103 and CX5104 are good, they were near the sata connector.
After fight for a free board view for this model i found one and able to search the other two caps. The problem are with that two remaining caps. They are covered in some bad thing that coroated the pads and a bit of the trace, disconnecting the circuit. Caps itself were good, 10nF, but i replace anyway because cap pad is corroated and partial there.

        I have attach the boardview.
        The damage & repair:

Good job and thanks for sharing. Corrosion causes faults in places you wouldn't think of.

True, but that is strange, can a ceramic cap leakout and cause this?

No, that green slime has come from somewhere else.

Dam, in that case the spot was perfect. Better there than in other sensive IC
It was the only spot with that thing and only surround that two caps

                  by DynaxSC
                  Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...

This sums up discussion related to Lenovo P14s Gen5 in this thread. Credits go to Sbaro and especially Maxpower3. The locked dump is attached.

The device is based on NM-F871 motherboard with Nuvoton NPCK397 series controller. The motherboard also contains three BIOS chips: two different Winbond chips for main BIOS and external EC flash, and also a Gigadevice chip which purpose I do not know. The password information is contained directly in controller and thus can be manipulated by reprogramming it, so reprogramming BIOS chips is technically not required, however you may wish to make...

Hello, i have some issues with my laptop Lenovo Y700-17ISK (motherboard BY511 NM-A541), it started when i turn on the laptop, but the lcd wont turn on, i then connected it via hdmi to tv and screen was ok. So i thought maybe lcd stripe is faulty, i removed the bottom cover, disconnected main battery, reset the cmos by disconnecting battery for 1 min, then slighty move the lcd stripe. Conncted power supply and tuned on my laptop, the lcd turn on, it started to load os, then it turn off, after a second it turn on, then after like 3 seconds turn off again, and so on. Removed power supply, waited...

                  by RdeveLabs
                  To all the members here...

Let me tell you a little bit about what happened to my laptop (MSI GF63 THIN 11UCX model: MS-16R6) that “maybe” you know how to solve this problem.

So before this problem happened, my laptop was running smoothly. When I wanted to restart my laptop, it looked fine at first. But after I waited for this restart process to take a long time, until finally I panicked (because the restart process did not finish plus the laptop screen only showed a black screen), I immediately pressed and held the power button to force the laptop to turn off. But...

Acer Aspire 4520 won't turn on after reboot
                  by robante15
Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 4520 from a couple of decades ago and I want to repair it solely for nostalgia.

It happens that when I turn it on after having been disconnected for a long time, it turns on without problems, it tells me that the BIOS has been reset and that it will load the factory settings, if I tell it to continue, the computer turns on and everything works fine.

The moment I turn it off and want to turn it back on a second time, or restart it and try to start it again, it no longer gives an image, and it no longer responds.

                  If I remove the...
