Hi there, just saw this thread - I'm also working on an LA-8241P, with a dead short on the B+ rail at the moment - per chance did you have this issue and if so how did you resolve it?

check pq101 and two caps near PL101. Normally these are the two culprits on this board most of the times though it can be any thing which is bad.

Interestingly enough I identified one of the two caps near PL101 as being short earlier this morning! Good to know it is a common point of failure. My board now powers on but sadly just sits there on a backlight black screen, so I think it may be destined for the trash.

May I ask whether this would still occur with the LVDS cable unplugged and external monitor plugged in? I've more or less given up on the board as I think the PCH is dead, but I'd be interested to know what this common fault is before I do.

Dell Inspiron 15 No Power - IC’s and surrounding components on 3.3v rail getting hot.
                          by CircuitRehab
Hi! I've had a laptop dropped off to me to take a look at. The issue stemmed from another IT repair shop replacing the display and now the laptop does not power on.

To cut a long story short, a lot of components on the 3.3v rail are getting burning hot and the laptop does not power on. I've identified some of the IC's but I'm unsure what could be causing the issue. I believe there to be a short somewhere leading to excess current, causing the heat but that's just a guess.

I've read through the schematics but they're not very helpful, as they don't tend to show any...

Please help me find 7 pin smd ic 901 part number in Delta DPS-300AB-76 LED Display Power Supply
                          by Gentian
I have a 5V 55A led Delta power supply with no output. I found this 7 pin IC 901 damaged as in the photo. All other elements look ok. I checked and every other surrounding componets diodes, resistors and capacitors look ok. I have 2 identical power supplies removed from a led wall which have the same defect with this ic burned but not a working one for reference. I founded by measurements that pin 7 goes to positive hot 450V 220uF electrolytic capacitor primary side. Pin 1, 2, 3, 4 connected together to pcb cooper trace. These four pins goes to negative side of 10uF 50V electrolytic capacitor...

                          MSI RX 5700XT 5v missing
                          by lezsimply
Hello guys I need a little help here. I'm trying to fix this graphics card regarding it's 5v missing. The card came to me with a shorted buck converter GS9230 (U501) with zero output. I replaced the IC with a new exact same model and the short is gone, but still no output. I checked surrounding components and there seems to be nothing else is at fault as to my knowledge.. I removed coil (L500) to isolate furthermore.

Thinking that the new buck converter could be defective, I decided to replace it again with a new one but same result. This buck converter is a standalone IC which outputs...

Can a BIOS chip survive hot-air soldering but still lose functionality?
                          by majster-pl
                          Hello everyone,
I’ve run into an issue after working with a laptop BIOS chip and wanted to get some advice.

I desoldered the BIOS chip using hot air and then read its contents with a CH341 programmer (only a read, no write or erase was done). The .bin file was not modified at all. After soldering the chip back, the laptop now no longer powers on.

                          For clarity:

No surrounding components were touched during the process.

All pads were checked with test points and were confirmed OK.

                          My question is:...
