    ITE programmer

I noticed That many motherboard manufacturers use of the ITE chip.
These chips must be programmed, currently I have found only two programmers, SVOD and rt809f or h, but seems that only a few models are supported (it8585e, it8580, etc) . In the future , will be used other chips.
Those programmers are very expensive and I have not idea if in the future other chips will be added. for example I posted in some forum and on svod technical support, an information request about it8585vg and how programm it , without any reply. We must renounce to repair a lot of new asus laptops , or there is a programmer (regardless of the cost of the programmer) that can do it ?

    Re: ITE programmer

Hi, I am just in the process of understanding the (design) logic of these publicly undocumented "EC" ICs. Empirically I should say (aka fixing Asus MB)...

My understanding (please someone correct me if I am wrong) is that not all of them contain flash memory for firmware. But some rely on a small part of the SPI Flash memory chip containing BIOS. In these cases the EC, itself, should not require programming.

I am trying to understand if SVOD and alike can be used to program the SPI Flash chip through the ITE EC.

The attached asus repair guide highlights this architecture...

Ah.. life is so simple with a PDF spec sheet!

          Re: ITE programmer

Can't remember where I found this repair guide... may well be on THIS site!

It's hard to believe no one (myself included) can find specifications on these widely used ITE chips (IT89xx, IT85xx...). I understand these are pretty usage-specific (limited number of HW designers). But we are far from bleeding edge chip design..

Another reason to waste time on ebay, looking for SEM used equipment.

          Cheers!

                They sell on eBay.

@gcomputers : Cool, but do you know what it actually does? Does it only program the EC / KBC chip directly or it goes further on using the chip to program the SPI flash?

I'm looking to upgrade several 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB for personal use. I am curious what the best practice and process is for sourcing new replacement chips, and what vendor(s) you guys prefer? Another question is, how do I find compatible chips and their corresponding part/model numbers? For example, in the 820-00850 schematic, the DDR chip U2600 model listed (EDFB232A1MA) corresponds to 1x32GB chip. Of course, I would need 4x8GB chips to replace the 4x2GB chips currently on the board. How do I find compatible 8GB chips? Is it as simple as searching "BGA178 8GB 2133"...

While these can be achieved with programmers like SVOD4/3 or the RT809H/F those options are WAYYY out of my budget so I was horrified. But recently I stumbled uppon some programmers on aliexpress that claim they can program a variety of ITE chips...
