  • Re: Samsung plasma - flashing standby light

    Hi,

If you replaced the 10uF caps and still the cpu board drops all voltages after 2-3 sec upon power-up, you most likely have a (few) Y-buffer chips dead. These chips work with 12V but their ground is actually at -200vdc. The DIP8 and 10uF does the regulation for the "positive" supply (-190V?), called Vsch by Samsung.

Y-Buffer chips may die shorted and the CPU will power-down all voltages (your case?) or die open (inoperative lines on the screen).

Check this video for testing Y-Buffer boards...

  • Re: Pn64e8000 power supply

    Hi,

The silicon is there to mitigate dusty (smoker) environments. FETs handle relatively high voltages regarding to their gates. Dust can bridge Drain to Gate (and fry the fet). Silicon is there to mitigate cheap overall cooling design (no filter). Believe me, if Samsung could have done without the silicon smudges they would have! (in overall warranty repair costs)

My advise is not to look for problems before they appear.

Note that I don't know this particular model..

    Cheers,

  • Re: Samsung PN60F5500, making me question my sanity

To (also) add to this old thread, I have to emphasize that the 10uF THT capacitors in these old plasmas have to be replaced. Some are more crucial than others, mainly one's who's value is critical for voltage regulation on the Y-main board. Near a transformer, DIP8 chip and opto.

This generates the "high" voltage for the Y buffer board(s). Basically a couple of volts above the "low" voltage (around -200v depending on models). Please note that supply rails have different names depending on manufacturers...

Wow, maybe I got lucky finding these files 3+ years ago, can't even remember where I got them... but I never got that many "thanks" in my life for anything else!

Please support right to repair legislation if you are voting in the USA. I can't.

Please wash your motherboards with de-ionized water and soft toothbrush, soak in 99.99% isopropyl and heat (60c) before repair. After, well it depends on your flux and aesthetics. Use silicon based thermal grease. Your customers will thank you by not coming back....

  • Re: Samsung PN60F5300 - 4 blinks

Forgetting to answer your main question, the initial symptoms :

    - The TV screen (not broken) says black.
    - At power-on, VS rises shortly to 200+V than drops to almost zero.
    - Logic board blinks the 1-blink pattern.

I have tested the power supply board, removed from the TV. VS is OK if I enable it via the VS-ON signal. Which leads me to believe the problem lies on the Y-Sus board.

  • Re: Samsung PN60F5300 - 4 blinks

First, thanks for your reply. I was out on more important stuff, sorry for the delay.

From searching the internet I could find the 10uF ceramics caps used in a lot of these units were prone to degradation. Capacitance can drop more than 20%. Pretty unusual for ceramic caps in my experience. I have used new compatibles (better) from an official supplier (mouser.com). My understanding is that one of these 106 in particular causes problems when degrading. This is the one used as supply capacitance for the ICE3BR06... SMPS chip. This chips...

  • Re: Samsung PN60F5300 - 4 blinks

    (replying to my own thread)

Got the code for the two eeprom chips. Now the error code is back to ONE blink! Vs builds to normal (208V) and then drops.

Aside from the 10uF cer caps and the ICE3BR0665J flyback DCDC DIP7 (!!) chip on the Y-Sus board, anyone has any idea what could prevent this thing from working?

I checked all TO-220 (Ds and Ts), all seem ok.

The screen is not cracked, this is the only reason I did not trash this thing in the first place..

    Thanks and, Cheers!

  • Samsung PN60F5300 - 4 blinks

After capacitor replacement on Y-Sus and Y-Buffers, I get a repetitive 4-blinks sequence from the main board. From the service manual of another model, this seems to translate to a software/logic problem on the main board.

There are two serial EEPROM chips on the main board. Does anyone have a binary dump for these chips? Is there any known way to reload firmware from USB (without TV interface)?

I noticed this board is used on multiple models of TVs. ShopJimmy also sells these chips individually but cannot confirm they are not just blanks...

    If anyone...

Funny, I just did a small c program yesterday to access the Altec PC410 with *nix os. I will publish it in the coming days on Github. Had one in my BGA rework station but bought another for a ceramic kiln.

It's a basic application to communicate with the controller so you will need to wrap it in a scrip or other if you want a full control software. My goal was to be able to record/plot the heating curves and view them in HTML..

Will post the github project when on-line.

    Cheers!

The two other chips are W25Q80.

One of your files was the correct bios file. Thank you!

But I still have weird blue screens in Windows 10. On the other hand, Ubuntu seems to run without problems. Will try to reinstall Win10.

    Thank, I will do try.
Onlly one chip is 64Mb so no confusion after all.

Any idea what are the other two 8Mb chips? ... just curious.

    HI,
Looking for bios image for the GL502VM (NOT the GL502VMK).

Also, I'm a bit puzzled, there are 3 serial flash chips on this motherboard. Which one(s) are the bios?

    Thanks...

Turns out there is a HW problem with the motherboard. So this bios image is probably a good one!

Not much info on these Gen 4 X1 .

    Cheers!

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 14282 Bios

Hi I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon 14282-2m that cycles on powerup. Fan and KB lights ramp up then down. I suspect it is a bios corruption problem. I have tried 16MB files for other similar boards (12xxx) but worst results (nothing comes on at all).

If anyone has this file, I would be grateful.

    Thanks,...

  • Re: help needed with BQ24737 ACOK

    Hi!
Did you successfully replace the 24737 for a 24707 (available at DK)?

I also have a board (NM-A032) that has a 24737 charger that does not seem to want to do anything. All voltages seem fine, including the 6V ldo output but it does not start charging.

The board had a shorted capacitor on VIN ..

    Thanks,
    Joseph.
