Dell XPS 15z Laptop Screen Flickering

My lcd started to go bad so I was getting ready to order a new one but now it's getting some distortion every once in awhile with horizontal and vertical lines for about 5 seconds and then back to normal. Now I'm wondering if I have a bad graphics chip too. Any thoughts? Thanks

open and close slowly the lcd while see how it looks, if there is a lines, the possibility of the flexible cable is problematic.

I would say that the gpu is getting "tired" !
Reball for a defenitive repair, Reflow for a Temporary Fix.

One common fault is the wires that connect the screen to the main board get stretched or damaged due to ppl opening and closing the laptop so much.It can be fixed but for most ppl it's probably not worth either doing themselves or paying somebody. Some places sell used panels for them others sell new avg cost for one is 25-50 bucks. There are videos online on youtube etc showing you how to do such repairs.Another common fault is the GPU's soldering connections become bad and there are services out there that offer a proper repair for that but is the laptop worth it.Some ppl like me have taken the board out and actually baked the mother board to fix GPU issues but like the other post mentioned you really don't know if it will work forsure and how long it will work for.You can also watch videos online showing you how to bake boards etc.

It's funny a did 3 toshiba mother boards all basically the same boards and 2 out of 3 baking the board worked. Then I had the exact same results with 2 out of 3 HP boards lol What I think is ppl have their laptops overheating or GPU's getting sudden surges due to the bad connections on the GPU and that ends up causing the GPU to be either become damaged or to not function. It's one reason why I highly advice ppl if the laptop is over heating or the GPU or graphics card is messing up have it fixed before it's not really fixable or costs you a lot more etc.

I tried the lid opening and closing and it didn't cause any problems. I'll pull the motherboard and have my friend re-flow the chips on his bga reflow table. Thanks for all the advice. I checked all the connections and everything looked good.

Okay, we did a re-flow of the chips and it's working fine. It starts off intermittent and eventually gets worse so if you see this it's just that time. Cost me $25 for his tech's time.

Dell monitor PSU vs Dell laptop PSU
                by keepread
                Hi there!
Someone gave me their old monitor, it's Dell S2715ht.
The owner was using it when his PSU began to smell and then to smoke. It literally began to melt. He turned the monitor off, pulled the PSU, and ditched it because it was smelly even after it cooled. So I got the monitor but not the plug.
Now, I tried to bring the monitor back to life, by plugging one of my many Dell laptop PSUs. They are of the same 19.5V, and the wattage of the laptop PSU is higher than that which the monitor is rated for. Visually, the socket on the monitor seems compatible, and the plug plugs...

                by EffiSon
Hi. Could anyone on the forum help me find the cause of the problem?
The board is LA-B111P Rev:1A comes from Lenovo Y50-70.

I have a identified the damaged R205 resistor, and connect a jump wire over it So it restores the backlight but causing strange problems

                1. With Battery ONLY plugged in laptop works fine
2 .With Charger ONLY plugged in laptop works fine as well

                3. Connecting both battery and charger at the same time shows a strange flickering screen. The flickering is not constant, it is completely random (and I think it depends on the load

When the black screen appeared, my legion 5 pro was connected to my external monitor...
