My lcd started to go bad so I was getting ready to order a new one but now it's getting some distortion every once in awhile with horizontal and vertical lines for about 5 seconds and then back to normal. Now I'm wondering if I have a bad graphics chip too. Any thoughts? Thanks

Re: Dell XPS 15z Laptop Screen Flickering
One common fault is the wires that connect the screen to the main board get stretched or damaged due to ppl opening and closing the laptop so much.It can be fixed but for most ppl it's probably not worth either doing themselves or paying somebody. Some places sell used panels for them others sell new avg cost for one is 25-50 bucks. There are videos online on youtube etc showing you how to do such repairs.Another common fault is the GPU's soldering connections become bad and there are services out there that offer a proper repair for that but is the laptop worth it.Some ppl like me have taken the board out and actually baked the mother board to fix GPU issues but like the other post mentioned you really don't know if it will work forsure and how long it will work for.You can also watch videos online showing you how to bake boards etc.
It's funny a did 3 toshiba mother boards all basically the same boards and 2 out of 3 baking the board worked. Then I had the exact same results with 2 out of 3 HP boards lol What I think is ppl have their laptops overheating or GPU's getting sudden surges due to the bad connections on the GPU and that ends up causing the GPU to be either become damaged or to not function. It's one reason why I highly advice ppl if the laptop is over heating or the GPU or graphics card is messing up have it fixed before it's not really fixable or costs you a lot more etc.Last edited by Electronic Handyman; 04-30-2016, 01:46 AM.
