    blown mobo?

hi, my brother has a stone nt308 laptop, one of the usb ports were broken exposing the 4 pins and my sister went and plugged the charger into that scoket causing the laptop to get 19v through the usb port :I, the laptop chargers but will not power on... when the power button is pressed the power led flashes until i let go of the button. is this laptop dead or can it be fixed? i cant really take the motherboard out etc but i can take the back panel off to get tot the cmos bat, ram, and cpu.

      +1

How did you determine that any of the USB pins were hit with 19v? The charger plug 19v may not have contacted the pins electrically. It's more likely that inserting it shorted the vulnerable USB pins. USB is hot swappable. If the +5v was shorted to ground at the busted USB port it might take the +5v rail down but not likely damage internal parts.

USB 5V power is switched through mosfet so regulator is not damaget. it try to switch on so 3,3V and 5V rails are ok. just the 5V switched rail have short on capacitor i think. that capacitors is for 6,3v so it can be shorted.

well the charger was on and when she plugged it in the charger led went off so im guessing it shorted and now when trying to power it on it just flashes the power led ive tried leaving batter out powering on with just charger etc still nothing the usb pins are also not touching anymore

also the laptop was closed at the time so im not sure if it was on or in sleep mode. the battery still charges so the fuse isnt blown in the charger or the chrarging circuit atleast. im just hoping the southbridge isnt fried because that will mean the laptop is useless

the led that flashes isnt the poiwer led.. its the charge led which means its shorting the charger out when trying to power on too.. is there any fuses similar to the ones on hard drives that create a dead short when blown? if so i could just remove it and it should work again?
