Laptop Power Issue – Works on Battery, Fails on Adapter Load

Dell laptop (E7440, uses the notorious CD3301B power controller + MEC5075 EC + BQ24715 charger IC)
    Symptoms:
    • Laptop works normally on a pre-charged battery.
    • Battery does not charge when adapter is connected.
    • Without battery:
      • Laptop powers on from DC adapter, passes CPU/RAM init checks, then cuts DC power abruptly.(seems to shutdown one of the mosfets in the charger path). Then the loop continues indefinitely
      • Speakers “pop” when power cut occurs indicating harsh sutdown.
      • If RAM is removed, the system shows RAM missing blink error code indefinitely without cutting DC power (so fault seems load-dependent rather than always-on).

    my observations so far
    • CPU warms up so CPU begins executing something before the cut occurs.
    • Behavior is consistent across adapters.
    • CD3301B seems to control the DC_BLOCK_GC / SOFT_START_GC FETs in the DC-in path.
    • Power cut only happens once significant load is drawn (not during early EC init or missing-RAM state).
    • No visible electrical damage; issue began after a hard physical drop.

my Question What conditions make the MEC5075 EC or CD3301B issue a late DC IN cut (after POST begins) so what should i check to resolder if the issue is related to broken solder joints

    Hi.

    1) love, love, love veg Ethiopian food.

    2) Which motherboard model? Share the LA-**** markings or link the schematic but only post it in the schematic sub-forum.

    3) Good that the laptop works on battery - there is hope for the repair.

    4) Always review the DCin mosfets linked to the charger IC as per the charger Bible by piernov - see the sticky above. Often, the fault is with the first 2 DCin mosfets.

Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode.

Measure the resistance across the mosfet pins @ PQ700.

        source / drain
        source / gate
        gate / drain

Post each measurement. Repeat for mosfet @ PQ4.

charger Bible by piernov is amazing.I checked all mosfets. I have finally found a solution. It was a loose connection in the power path that made the charger fail to supply enough current. thats why the laptop shuts down when the CPU begins execution. Thank you guys!!

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
            by rounin
            Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

            🛠 Original Issue
            The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

Kenwood SW-505D no sound issue and pops from time to time when it works
            by ex250
            Hello mates,

I bought this subwoofer a few days ago used and blind and it works erratically, as far as I could see, it has been tampered with, the speaker is not the original one and of 8 Ohm when it should be of 4, and there are some welds like reworked by the boards.

It doesn't have much power (expected more from it) and it distorts if you increase the volume over the middle, maybe it's because of the high impedance of the speaker. The problem is that it has sound when it wants, the led panels all work correctly, you can hear the power relay on power on, but right now...

            A2141 Weird Issue But works
            by Stephen
Got an A2141 MacBook Pro 16" computer turns on however the track pad clicks but the keyboard has no life, NO LIQUID DAMGE whatsoever. Trackpad does click but the OS loads but the trackpad won't move the cursor, the keyboard is unresponsive. I replaced the cable and the trackpad to see if that was the issue but it was not, I went to see if the CAPS LOCK would turn on but it does not. Any indication what this is? I went and tested the lid sensor but nothing else. Battery holds a charge, fans spin normally, and lcd is good. I can use external mouse and keyboard without issue....

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
            by DynaxSC
            Hi,

I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
            • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
            • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket
            ...

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54. displays on the external monitor and works fine, the issue is NO display on the internal screen
            by DqMagetz
            Good day!
I have a customer's laptop — Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54 (EH5VF - LA-H501P). It has a display on the external monitor and it's working fine, but the issue is NO display on the internal screen. I already replaced the eDP cable and checked the LCD connector pins.

            Here are the voltage readings:
            • Input – 19V (stable)
            • +LCDVDD – 3.3V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • EDP_HPD – 3.3V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • PCH_BKL_PWM – 2.2–5V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • EC BKOFF# – 1.8V briefly, then drops to 0V
            • PANEL_OD_EN – 0.3V

Is it possible that the EC chip is corrupted or damag...
