    Multiple A2442 MacBook Pros 14" with the same charging issues

    Same problem on all 14" MBP A2442 models we have in stock, all customers had liquid damage, All boards turn on, boards were cleaned professionally as well. Boards hold charge but batteries not charging, all show the same issue. All boards show the ORANGE AMBER light but no charge sound or any charge going in. One customer stated that the battery will charge if the lid is closed and the battery will reach 100%. USB C ports work for DATA and recognize the externals but do not recognize any charge. I have checked PPBUS_AON and we are getting 12 volts without battery, but when battery is connected it drops to 11volts and some are 10.5volts. I would rule it a battery issue but what's odd is they are holding a charge and do not state they are ABNORMAL. Checked resistors in question and all check out. I have ordered a good amount of chips in question for this board just to see if it fixes it, but nothing is showing any shorts at this time. Any idea if someone has experienced this issue, I have experience it one time with another customer and fixed it but that was a more intense separate issue. Thanks in advance.

    So I discovered some new knowledge or maybe its not new who knows. These computers seem to boot when the USB C chip is somewhat faulty, even if the resistors are good, replacing a faulty CD3217B12 chip will result in the voltage to jump back up to 20Volts and proper amps for charging the battery. I noticed this with each board yet all of them had the same issue, some had different chips to pinpoint. But most of them all resulted in a CD3217B12 chip being swapped out from a donor. I solved two boards and both had faulty CD3217B12 chips. I. had to source a donor board since I know that the 14" those chips need to come from the correct side just like A2251 boards. One board had a faulty CD3217B12 chip but was still registering so the computer turned on, With this knowledge I was able to solved the second one, I am waiting on another donor for the third. The other board had heavy liquid damage near the HDMI port which hit the CD3217B12 chip. Replacing these more than likely solves the charging issue even though it turns on with a battery....

    Update: my assumption was correct. CD3217B12 chips are the culprit in this type of issue. ONE thing I did notice and I want to give knowledge about is when all CD3217B12 is working you would get 5volts but what I discovered is if you plug up the meter and test PPBUS_AON you will get 12volts on most chips, but one board in particular would give you a different reading if you plug it into different ports. Example: USB C port UF500 would result in 12volts on PPBUS_AON but had 5 volts as usual, plugged up the meter to UF400 same result, Plugged up the meter to UG400 5 volts per usual HOWEVER, PPBUS_AON would result in voltage reading under 10 volts. I was suspicious so I replaced it and voila the board turned on and started getting amps again, plugged up battery and then the battery finally charged.

    Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

      Bumping thread, waiting for chips that may be the issue, but would like a second opinion as I have three with the same identical issue.

        So I am kind of lost here. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a common issue that I am seeing and cannot seem to pinpoint the issue on the board.

          Replaced U5200 still no solution, replaced faulty resistors, etc. replaced L5230 since it wasn't getting voltage but now it is...but still no charging. I get 20volts 0amps when plugged in, battery holds a charge but will not charge, Replaced Q5230 and Q5240 since I had those brand new in stock...still no charge. Went down the schematics and still nothing to find out why it won't charge. Replaced the battery with 3 good known batteries and all are the same result, NO CHARGING. I am confused on what is going on, I have tried to pin point the issue, looked for shorts but nothing is coming up. Any help would really greatly be appreciated.

          Another weird thing is when plugged into the battery the voltage on PPBUS_AON drops to 11.11 volts. Without it plugged in its at a steady 12volts.

            Attach the power adapter and battery; meter in DC volts mode of 30v or higher.

            Carefully measure the voltage to ground on each side of C5220. Post each measurement.

                  C5260 11volts. That cap at C5220 went down to 0volts when the meter went to 20volts 0amps. but C5260 has 11.17 volts
                  Corrections C5220 is getting 0.20volts on both sides now. very low voltage

                    Where are you measuring 20v on the board? This must be from the power adapter which then leads to C5260, yet C5260 is 0v?

                      I am getting 20volts reading on the USB C meter and 0 amps. I was getting 11volts on C5260 and now I am getting 0 volts at C5220 or like 0.20volts DC

                        Ok. Read your update. Remove all power / no battery. Meter in resistance mode. Measure the resistance across C5220.

                          I removed that cap since it looked a little beat up, replaced it. So this is the replacement cap resistance for C5220 3.4Ohms

                              Touch your meter probes together. What is the resistance?

                              The resistance across C5220 should be ~2 ohms. It is possible that R5260 is defective.

                              This one is critical and is a point of failure. Suggest to flux and replace it.

                                  Then the 3 ohms makes sense = 1 ohms (meter) + R5221 + R5222.

                                  Remove all power. Meter in DIODE mode. Red meter probe to ground. Black meter probe to one side of C5220. What is the voltage? Repeat with the other side of the capacitor.

                                    Voltage Reading is 0.48volts in diode mode. Both sides. Yeah I failed to mention my probes need a little love. It may be time to get some new ones.

                                      Replaced R5260, tested for other problems but cannot seem to find any result, put board in and nothing is charging still. Kind of want to throw this computer out the door lol

                                        The diode readings confirm that the ISL chip is soldered and not floating.

                                          PPCHGR_VDDA = Voltage dropping. went down from 5volts down to 1 volt and still dropping.
                                          PPCHGR_VDDP = 5volts and dropping..

                                          I tested these on the other ports... and this is the readings.

                                          Something odd is happening what I just noticed. The port I am using shows the voltage dropping (JG600) when connected to the other two ports the voltage stays consistent. and is higher.

                                          I do recall seeing tons of liquid damage in this area, but doesn't seem to explain why the computer is working but not charging. I am assuming if this chip is faulty would it result in a no charge?
