    MBX-237 all capacitors shorted

    Hi guys,

I have a MBX-237 in hands which is shorted almost everywhere (see pic).

Need help where to connect my regulated power supply to inject current and detect shorted capacitor.

    Thanks.

use an esr meter to check the resistance across the cap pins.
the one that's shorted will read lower than the others because the others will have the added resistance of the copper tracks.

we used to use this trick to find bad ram chips on boards that had banks of 16 on them.

does it apply with Bga to?
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Try removing the middle in the first three capacitors area. Several times occurred to me.

When you say, shorted, how many Ohms?
Remove processor and check resistance to ground without power supply connected on PL16, PL17, PL19, PL8, PL9, PL10, PL14 and PL11

I think that the cpu is soldered in the main board. When you find the shorted one check also on the daughter board for any tiny fuse near the black connectors under those black tapes.

did you ever fix this? I am in the same boat here. not sure if the capacitors are shorted or just reading that way due to the circuit?

the laptop won't turn on, but it does charge the battery.

I got this gpu that does not work, is not detected in windows(not shown as a pcie device),the heatsink got a little warm. MSI 7600 GT PCIE, NX7600GT-T2D256EZ.

Tested in different motherboards, same issue. I got it with a capacitor broken(one leg was left), and an broken indictor related to fan pwm I think.
As a hobby I tinkered with arduino, I got a soldering iron and a hot air gun, no experience in repairing(occasionally watched videos of northridgefix)

I measured randomly capacitors for short and found some shorts on a few, and found short on a few mosfets....

                    Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

                    I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

                    by Yanleb
Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

                    D608, good
                    D618 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
                    D619 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
                    D865 RF101L4S, shorted (See warning 1 below)

                    by modtool
                    Hi to all,
the owner of this machine gave it to me after having opened it to take off the dust from the inside, telling me that after that it didn't start anymore.
I found that one of the DrMOS (AOZ5016QI) on the CPUCORE was shorted between VIN and VSWH, and that one of the two n-mos connected to the power jack was shorted aswell.
I unsoldered the two shorted components and verified that there were no other short circuits, then decided to power the mainboard, firstly with the lab power supply, then with its original HP 200w charger, but the behaviour is the same, the board starts...

After updating motherboard capacitors, what to do next (Asrock K7VT2, SOLTEK SL-75FRN2L)
                    by dragon3x
Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
                    power on.

                    Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
                    switching supply area).
                    (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
                    than 6.3 V.)

1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
                    I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
                    3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA...
