MacBook Pro A2338 liquid damage repair for a beginner?

    Hi all,

i have a A2338 with water damage on the logic board. Cleaning it showed some heavier corrosion around U7000 and surrounding caps. Some are totally broke.
I get 5,2v when using both USB-C Ports but until now i didn't make any more tests.
Since i'm a beginner i want to know next possible steps. I'm not afraid replacing the intersil 9240hi but the other parts with 1mm or 2mm scare me and i don't know where to get replacements.
I fixed other laptops but this ist my first apple device .

Hi. Highly suggest to purchase some donor boards for training on soldering and removal of such tiny WLCSP packaged parts like this intersil 9240hi.

The intersil 9240hi is available from Aliexpress.

      Hello mons2,

thank you for your reply. Do you have any tipps for tools to work on these parts? As stated i worked on boards and have a hot air station, soldering irons and a digital microscope. Would it be easier to use low melt solder or solder paste for such small parts?

looking at what's going on around the isl, everything under the isl is corroded! before buying a new isl, reball the old isl! you have all the tools! buy a stencil right away, if not, for the isl and soldering paste for rolling the balls and flux! this will be enough to replace it and all the other components!

A1466 Macbook Air (Liquid damage repair)
          by mon2
Hi. Recently serviced a damaged A1466 Macbook Air. Thought to post the issues and resolution for each.

Macbook AIR Model A1466 Diagnostic 09-01-2021

Issue: Liquid damaged (beer spill) Macbook AIR will not power up.

          Problems & Resolutions

          1) Attached Apple magsafe power adapter. No green / no orange light. This confirms the absence of the PP3V42_G3H voltage rail. The PP3V42_G3H rail is the primary voltage rail necessary to communicate with the magsafe power adapter to report the green or orange light status to the end user....

Hello, First of all thanks you for reading this topic.
I need your help with identify missing parts on trackpad logic board (661-18430).

MacBook Pro 13inch 2017mid (A1706 820-00923-A) - liquid damage - USBC and Display short circuit
          by rilley
          Hello everyone,
I am new into this, sorry to post it here. I want to make this as a pet hobby project, as this mac is not urgent.

          I have (Macbook Pro 13inch 2017mid) A1706 820-00923-A

My mac had liquid damage a long time ago, the connector from J8500 is damaged on pin 46 (PP5V_S0_ALSCAM_F), I guess the LCD/display panel is in short circuit, as I saw the connector from the LCD burned as well.

And the resistor L4004 is literally burned.

From what I see from the schematics, it does not affect any other rails, only the connection to the display...

MacBook A1989 overheating after liquid damage
          by Jenzo
          Hey everyone,

Had a MacBook pro 13" 2018 (A1989) come in for liquid damage. The only liquid damage was all around UB400. It was most likely soda, so there wasn't that much corrosion. I reflowed the UB400 and the QB chips with some flux, and replaced the caps/resistors that were in bad shape. Seemed to be working fine at first, but the next day when testing it again, the laptop charges and boots fine, the CPU would overheat, and U7210 would get to 70 degrees Celsius as well. I'm testing with only screen and battery connected at this point.

          I can't figure out how...

a2338 2020 Macbook Pro liquid damaged won't turn on- weird issue
          by bigbadbios
          Hi,
I am trying to fix this liquid damaged 2020 Macbook pro and I noticed something weird.
When I push on/around the renesas 501cr0b IC, which appears to be a clock generator/ multiplier, If I apply lot of pressure, the device will reach 19.9 volts and seems to be trying to work.
I have thoroughly reflowed that area and completely removed that chip (there was some liquid stain in that area) but no help. I have just 5v 0a unless I apply the pressure.
Your help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
