    Macbook Air - 2018 - A1932 - 820-01521-02 - Bootlooping if Power Button Connected

    Hello,

With the power button connected it either boot loops with the apple logo or no display but the charging meter shows it looping on charging every few seconds.

    No corrosion any where!

Tried a replacement power button off ebay and the same.

Very occasionally it will work with the power button connected!

Same results with or without the battery.

Can it be a fault with the Audio board or the mainboard?

The touch Id assembly connects through the Audio board first then to the Mainboard.

Flex cable from Audio board is in perfect condition..

    Any ideas what to check?

I checked reading across both power button tactile switches on the 2 assemblies I have and both the same:

If RED on Ground side of switch then 1K,
If BLACK on Ground side then O/C.

I find that a bit strange? Is there a diode in there?

I checked the components outside the button on the flex but none connect to the switch apart from Ground obviously.. So they must be for the Touch ID.

I checked for shorts all over the Audio board but none.

I'm going to look for the schematics now but I doubt they have the Audio board or Touch/Button Assembly in there.

Also it is strange that every now again it works! - If there was a short it wouldn't magically un-short itself.

    Many thanks - Simon.

I've got the same issue, the fault started with the battery indicator not showing charging when plugged in, took it to the apple store and he turned it off during an update now its the boot loop that you have. just started to go through the board view and schematics.

Apple Store moron that turned it off during an update. There is a reason the procedure notes to not power down / interrupt the installation.

Try to boot using internet recovery. See if the boot loop stops.

My issue was only related to the power button, sounds you like you had a charging issue and now you have the boot looping because the update was interrupted like mon2 has said.. OS can be corrupted interrupting it..

After re-installing you can then address the charging issue if still existing..

I never figured out he issue.. It would always boot loop with the power button so I ordered another for testing and it booted but then I put the old one back in to test and strangely that one worked! I was hoping to meter out the flex on each button to see if a difference but it kept working.

My friend asked me to leave dis-connected in case it came back, button is not needed for normal operation and he never used the touch id. Macbook self boots up on USB C connection. Button only needed for touch id and forcing off if crashed.. It hasn't crashed so far and you can just wait over night for battery to die if that happened..

HP Envy 13-BA1565na with intermittent power button
          by themosttogain
Hope someone can give me some suggestions on this because i'm at my wits end with it...

I have an Envy 13-BA1565na here with an Intel Core i7 i7-1165G7 CPU (board is a LA-J475P Rev 1.0) which has an intermittent power button issue. The power button is integrated into the keyboard, and I have ruled out the keyboard, BIOS and battery as being the issue.

Basically, on mains power, the power button works fairly well. The first time you come to it after leving it sitting (either on charge or not on charge), it might take 2 or 3 presses of the button, but then the laptop boots...

HP OMEN 16-WF0032TX NO Power unless the button is held and AC adapter connected
          by techpointhull
          Hi Guys,

Got a weird one here. I have a HP OMEN 16-WF0032TX that's in my shop for no power. If I disconnect the battery, and the AC adapter and hold the power-on button on the keyboard, when I connect the adapter the laptop powers on. If I shutdown and close the lid, once I re-open the lid and press the power button, no power. If I shutdown and keep the lid open, when I press the button the laptop powers on.

I have checked around the display connector if I can see anything that doesn't look right, its like an issue with the lid sensor. Has anyone seen this before?...

Asus FX517ZC charges but power button does nothing
          by TimeRabbit07
          Hi all!

I've got an Asus FX517ZC on the bench at the moment and I just can't figure out what's going on with it.

Here are its various numbers and identifiers:
          Model short: FX517Z
          Model long: FX517ZC-HN114W
          SN: NANRCX01S57842E

          MFD: 2022-10
          Motherboard model: DA0NJLMBAE0 REV E

          Symptoms:
The laptop's charge light comes on, but when the power on button is pressed nothing happens. No fan spin, no caps lock, no screen or keyboard backlight, nothing.

PS4 Fat, power button not working
          by Zippo978
          Hi everyone,
I have a first-model PS4 Fat with a touch power button. Now the button isn't working, and I don't know why. How can I fix it? And if it can't be fixed, is there a way to bypass this button and install a "normal" button?

          MacBook Air A1932
          by TOMÁŠ
Hi, I've never worked with a MacBook before, so I need some advice.
I have a MacBook Air A1932 (820-01521). When I plugged in the charger with an amp meter, it showed 19.7V and 1.9A, which indicates that it's charging, but when I press the power button, it doesn't turn on. So, I disassembled it, disconnected the battery, and plugged in the charger again. It showed 19.6V and 0.04A, and pressing the power button had no effect—no current draw at all. Then, I removed the motherboard, connected the charger again, and got the same results. I took a multimeter and checked all the coils, and everything...
