A2289 MacBook Pro - No power - Need help!

    Hi everyone,

I need your help with repairing this Macbook Pro. The fault is that the laptop does not power on. there are different current draw from the various USB ports.
It is worth mentioning that there is no liquid on the board after a visual inspection. below you can see all readings and info after some diagnostic.

There are also some thermal images uploaded in the thread.

What should I do next? any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Current draw:
    USB port 1: 4.9V - 0.356A
    USB port 2: 4.9V - 0.056-0.60A

When power connected to USB port 1:
    F7000 - PPBUS_G3H - 12.30V (both pin 1 and 2).
Both U3100, U3200 and L6901 lights up on thermal.

    Voltages near U3200:
    C3208 - 3.254V
    C3205 - 1.582V
    C3200 - 3.311V

    Voltage near U3100:
    C3105 - 1.231V
    C3108 - 2.813V

When power connected to USB port 2:
    F7000 - PPBUS_G3H - 0.890V (both pin 1 and 2).
Only U3100 lights up on thermal.
    C3208 - 0V
    C3205 - 0V
    C3200 - 0V

    Voltage near U3100:
    C3105 - 1.245V
    C3108 - 2.904V

    Readings around U3200:

The above parts look like suspects. Carefully flux and remove each with low air pressure -> keep track of each location & part that was removed -> then check the resistance of each PCB pad after the board has cooled off. No power in the resistance checks.

      Hi Mon2,

      Thanks for your reply.

The values are the same when the components are removed, I also replaced them. no difference.

Based on these voltage measurements; the low resistance to ground check and diode mode readings - this ACE controller (CD3217) is defective. Wait on others to comment but this power delivery controller does not appear to be normal. These test points are the LDO rails and the 1v5 rail is used to power the BMC interface for the CCx power delivery lines. The results indicate that there is internal damage to the controller.

Thanks again Mon2 for your reply.

That was my conclusion too, but there is a strange reading on C3208 (D:0.085 R:99.9 ohm and 3.254 V) so I'm not sure if its U3100 or U3200 that is causing the problem. any suggestions?

C3208 has a close enough LDO voltage to 3v3 so will consider this rail to be ok.

With the noted components off the board for U3100 - is the thermal scan showing a lower temp for U3100?

It's like 8-10 Celsius difference between U3100 and U3200 you can see for yourself in the photos I uploaded. U3100 46-48 Celsius U3200 36-38 Celsius

sorry, i didnt understand your request. so just to clearify, do you want me to remove the caps and check with thermal again?

There is no diffrent in heat when the components are off the board. How shall i proceed?

A2141 minor liquid damage, U3100 TOP port dead. Periodically boots to 20V ~1A on other USBC ports
                    by abajor
Just wondering if anybody has seen this issue. I'm assuming that all of the CD3217's are semi functional for the chips to request 20V from the PSU.

This unit had some soda spattered up into the side vent. I ultrasonic cleaned the board, now getting this weird sometimes requesting 20V behavior, then it goes back to 5.2V ~ 25mA The U3200 jack cycles.
I'm hoping this is just an issue with some components between the TOP Jack and U3100 and not U3100 itself.

Not seeing anything unusual on thermals just some of the power supply inductors getting warm when it's requesting...

                    by francescoranchi
Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum but I hope I can find help and also help others at the same time!

I have a MacBook Pro 13inch from 2018 and it doesn't turn on anymore it's completely gone. I was using it connected to a USB-C / HDMI adapter to connect it to the tv when it just turned off and it's not powering on anymore.

I don't have an AMP meter so I can't see how many amps are getting pulled. The only symptom is the U3100 getting very hot, upon closer inspection it looks like it burned because there's a small hole on the top surface of the IC (I've already seen...

                    Dear friends,
a close friend of mine gave me this machine, she told me that the last days the fan was going high and that it was heating up too much for the usual things, and that suddenly one morning it didn't start anymore .
I opened it and inspected carefully with a high magnifying lens, found no oxydized spots but a short on PPBUS_G3H , then a blown U6903.
                    I changed U6903 with a new one, PPBUS_G3H became 558 (measuring with red probe to gnd , and black on F7000) , PP3V3_G3H_RTC 463.
Now when I plug the usbc cable (original Apple 61W power supply), nothing starts automatically,...

                    Macbook A1989, 820-00850, won't boot. 20V, 0A.
                    by PITERPENY
Today I have a MacBook A1989 at work 820-00850. When assembled, the laptop switches to 20 volts but the consumption is 0.00 ampere. if the motherboard is on the table then the consumption of all ports is 5 volts and0.35 amperes and does not go to 20 volts only if you assemble a MacBook.
Here are some measurements, maybe someone can tell what the problem is.
The initial problem was a burnt out induction coil L8504 (replaced).
When connected to another MacBook, it constantly hangs in dfu and cannot install updates, something is wrong.
                    here are some measurementsmotherboard...

Hi everyone - first time poster on here looking to embark on my first repair! Thank you in advance for any help!

My Macbook only turns on when the charger is plugged in and only the trackpad and fans show signs of life. The display, caps lock light and touchbar do not turn on. There was previous liquid damage to the touchbar but after cleaning and drying the laptop was operational for a year without any issues. There doesn't seem to be any sign of liquid damage to the board, at present.

What I have done so far:
