    MBP 13inch 2018 No Power - 820-00850-07 motherboard faulty (U3100 get's hot)

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum but I hope I can find help and also help others at the same time!

I have a MacBook Pro 13inch from 2018 and it doesn't turn on anymore it's completely gone. I was using it connected to a USB-C / HDMI adapter to connect it to the tv when it just turned off and it's not powering on anymore.

I don't have an AMP meter so I can't see how many amps are getting pulled. The only symptom is the U3100 getting very hot, upon closer inspection it looks like it burned because there's a small hole on the top surface of the IC (I've already seen similar holes and they are typical of burned ICs), please see the picture!

    Now the question is:

    - Would the MacBook still turn on with battery power if I remove the U3100? or does the MacBook not turn on at all without it?

    - What do you think about the "hole" on top of the U3100? would you agree with me saying that it is probably burned?

    - What other things would you suggest I check to confirm the fault?

Main question is if the Macbook still turns on without U3100 (doesn't have to be fully functional, just fan spin would be nice)

Thanks for anyone that can help me!

--> The hole that I'm talking about in the U3100 is the one above the letter "C" on the top left of the IC.

U3100 will need to be replaced due to internal damage of the part. It is probably acting like a short to prevent further boot. At the very least the part needs to be properly removed, pcb pads cleaned so they are not solder shorting. Then you can test with only a battery but then the battery will not be able to charge.

MacBook Pro 2018 with Activation Lock
      by envym
      Hi everyone!

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...

Why doesn't current just bypass faulty capacitors.
      by Spudgun
Hello esteemed members. I appreciate that my question will strike some as being somewhat childishly simple, but it genuine perplexes me! I have repaired several laptops before by removing a faulty capacitor that was short-circuiting the motherboard, whereupon the laptop would then work. For me, it begs the question that, if the current can bypass where the capcitor was when it has been removed, why didn't it just bypass it when it was present and faulty,? I can't get my head round the premise that if the other side of the capacitor is connected to ground, then why doesn't the current simply bypass...

      A2141 820-01700 Water Damage L8504 Damaged, U3100/U3200 power cycles UB300/UB400 5V .25A
      by abajor
Like title says A2141 came in with Water Damage, customer desperately wants the data.

The actual water ingress doesn't appear too bad it sat for a day but was very dusty internally. I have no idea why L8504 was arced there is no apparent moisture there or around the LVDS cable; however, the LVDS to screen screw studs had popped off at some point and somebody tried securing it with kapton tape.

I had to create a micron wire pad jumper to reconnect the south side of the L8504 since the primary pad was blasted down to the vias.

That said after cleaning up the...

Acer A317-53 need help to disable faulty onboard ram
      by b-slayer
      Hello.
I have an Acer Aspire A317-53 laptop with faulty onboard ram modules, after online searches, I have only found two options to get it working :
      - first one is to modify le bios to disable the onboard ram.
      - second one is to disable the onboard ram by desoldering some components on the mainboard.

so after some hours google-ing, i have to give-up the modified bios option, main reason is I couldn't find anywhere a such modified Bios, alternate reason is that if windows update makes a bios update, the problem is always here...

so i found that my motherboard...

Ryobi 36V (aka 40V) 6Ah Faulty Battery Pack
      by brispuss
Purchased a Ryobi 36V 6Ah battery pack maybe just over a year ago.

Battery pack had been used on about 3 or 4 occasions for powering a cordless lawnmower. I was wanting to use this battery pack again recently, but on checking the battery charge state via the battery pack test button, there was no LED indication at all of charge state which suggested the pack was fully discharged.

I found this to be odd as I usually fully recharge battery packs shortly after use. So either the pack developed some sort of fault which completely discharged the pack cells (after recharging),...
