HP 630 only power led lights up

hi guys i am new to this forum. but i hv seen many useful posts here.
First of all i hv moderate knowledge in electronics. Therefor i repair notebooks for fun n for my pocket money.

last week my friend brought me a laptop with following symptoms:

    HP 630 Core i5 with Chicago_HR_HPC

When i plugged in charger DC jack lights on
after pressing power power light turns on but nothing else.
no fan , no display ,no thing other than lighting up power led laptop seems almost dead.

    According to the power sequence:

    3.3vAL/5vAL and 3.3vA/5vA lines up n running
    PWR_SWIN# -- ok -- lights up
RSMRST# -- 3.3V (always shows 3.3v no change when pressed power button)
EC_PWRBTN# - 3.3v/0v (it shows 3.3v before pressing power button after it shows 0v)

SLP_S5#_3R - ? (schemetics says it is the next thing to check which says sending S5 signal to SB to EC)

    SLP_S4#_3R - nothing

    SLP_S3#_3R - nothing

    from that point everything stops.

Therefore i assuming that BIOS chip doesn't involve in this case Bcz it wont power up whereas S3# signal not coming out from south bridge.

I want to knw is this voltages are ok and how to check S5.

Also i hv already reflowed south bridge to make sure HP laptops south bridge problem is not the reason for this problem.

i think EC (IT8518) is bad bt before i replace it i want to knw what you guys suggesting ......
    thanx .....................

If you had oscilloscope you could measure bios ic and see if its communicating with EC, if not need to reflash or replace EC. I think the RSMRST signal should go if its on it means the whole circuit is still in reset which means cpu not working, bios not reading, no communication between ec and southbridge. If you had mini pci diagnostic card you could just slot it in and see if any readings, it will also show you the reset led and clk and so on. Try and reflash the bios first, before you do any other steps.

      Thanx for the quick reply.
I have already checked bios chip and +3.3S (sus volatage) doesn't come there to power up the bios chip. I think which means south bridge is not producing 3.3v sus voltage due to lack of communication with EC.

You should check EC SPI ROM, (UI2) (MX25L4006EM1I-12G) and its pin 8. (+V3.3AL)
If it is powered, reprogram it.
        (I used hp_compaq_presario_cq43_cq57_foxconn_chicago_rev_mv schematic)

Got it. I went through every page n it seems can be done with my noobie knowledge in SPI programming.
Anyway i also found CQ43 not working MB which also has same SOIC-8 WinBond chip.So i think i shall gv a try replace it before doing reprogramming.

I think you have to check first if the southbridge is supplied before. Because if not it will not respond with s3 signal

Sorry now i got it . Ec_pwrbtn# must be low (0v) and then up (3.3v) when you press power button. Rsmrst# signal is good.

Problem Motherboard fails to power on. is it possible that the bios is corrupt ?

                          Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                          Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

hello. i've a ps5 edm-033 mobo w/ no power, lights, but one beep when power pressed. i've hooked to uArt and only error code is 80871001 (DDR4 No Power or Short Circuit). i have a donor board, same model, that does power up, fan spins, blue light, and beeps 3 times, then powers off. it has a botched HDMI port replacement job. so w/ the board i'm interested in, with the error 80871001, i was able to research and obtain voltages of the SSD PMIC. i've attached pictures of the provided diagram by DylanBBK (@d62 on Discord) and my voltages and picture of my board. my question is on my picture...

                          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
