Dell XPS M1710: GPU Fan Not Working

Yet another laptop Im working on, as in title.

Laptop gets very hot but only CPU fan comes on. Any ideas? Can I just bridge the CPU Fan's connection to the GPU Fan's connection? That would save some time. Need to collect payment fast

The first issue was no graphics so I reballed the GPU and all is well. But now I see a fan not working. Fan was not working before the reballing.

    Thanks.

    hello!
i have a xps m1710 at home colecting dust and dell m6300 ( a friends notebook)
xps--> power on no display if a press FN+power it shows a CPU ERROR code (it will colect dust )
that M6300 was over heating and we cleaned after assembelingthe 2 fan stop working; for the video fan there is a powerd mosfet that you can skip by bridging it and it will run as normal because the yellow wire can provide power so the fan can work faster if video hot, but the cpu fan you need to take 5v from near power bord usb( just cut the red wire and put it on direct on usb board.
    The strange problem is that the yellow wire from CPU give voltage normal (for RPM) but there is not 5v on red wire, my guess is ic controler is half faulty;
One direct one normal ( i done this job in 30 min cuz my friend was making money with that m6300)
i wish you good luck and i know you can do it
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Bridged and both fans are now running. Case SOLVED!

Re: Dell XPS M1710: GPU Fan Not Working

Got a similar problem as speedypro, but both fans don't power on. I tested the fans with a 9v battery and they power on. The first issue for me was no graphics, but I used a heat gun to reflow. Now I find the fans won't go on.

Any idea where the fan controller is on this laptop?

Re: Dell XPS M1710: GPU Fan Not Working

I got the fans to work by using a heat gun on the north bridge and the south bridge chips on the board. It also turns out the Dell bios likes to turn on the fans when the chips are melting apparently. Would explain the weak solder joints on everything. So I use i8kfanGUI to keep everything cool. I hope you like disabling digitally signed drivers btw.

When I say Dell, I mean Clevo, as in this thing is clearly made by Clevo.

Actually it is a Compal Board. Probably the problem is a problematic thermal sensor. I have read in other forum posts that a lot of people reset the thermal sensors on Dell laptops by pressing the Fn+Z keys.
