    Toshiba C660D Blown Fuse

hey guys, ive been reading this forum for a little while and i figured i might register. So anyway, the fuse on the laptop's motherboard (labelled PF1) is blown and i have no idea where to get a suitable replacement, also the laptop refuses to boot on battery power, just turns on then off. was really just a test laptop for me to mess around with it and see if i could fix it. im quite keen on getting into component level PCB repair and the like. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    P.S: The exact model is C660D PSC1YA-00G00L

Can you post a good clear picture of the fuse and the area of the board

ive tested the area around the fuse with a multimeter and tried bridging the fuse... when that it done the PC works fine... heres the pic (the light is from my $1.50 halogen globe from the 2 dollar store and a post-it note light filter)

Hi - ok not a simple answer the fuse is a Bourns 2.5A But I believe the schematic for
a C660 (not sure about the D has a 7A24v Fuse so has it been replaced previously.
So it may have blown because it is too small amps. I will attache some supporting info and you can decide. Perhaps try a 4Amp one??

This is the 7A 24v equivalent of what you have

This is the datasheet for the fuse mentioned in the schematic as on pic

This is the datasheet for the fuse you have in and you can see T is 2.5A but you can get a 7A

would it be advisable just to bridge the fuse with a little bit of wire?... ahh you know what... those fuses are damn cheap... ill set it aside and wait till i have to order some caps or something.
thanks so much for the help selldoor!

            Re: Toshiba C660D Blown Fuse

It is NEVER advisable to bridge the fuse with a piece of wire.
Even expensive fuses are cheap compared with the cost of repairing the possible damage of using a wire.

              Re: Toshiba C660D Blown Fuse

The "T" on top of the fuse means it's a 5A fuse.

Hi momaka - I dont doubt you but where do you get that- I am trying to build
a list of the different markings - I keep giving up as every make series seems
to use a different one. I thought it was a littelfuse and in the datasheet I posted it suggests T=2.5

Its a minefield - I always used to use this
                http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=658938
and yes on there it says T=5 but I find more and more that more modern fuses dont match that post.

                  Re: Toshiba C660D Blown Fuse

Well good thing you brought that up. I thought SMD fuse codes were more or less standard. In the past, I have been using this data sheet from LittleFuse to determine what the codes meant (or at least a screenshot I took from that data sheet - see attached image).

Given that this is the input and that most average laptops can use over 3A of current, I think a 5A fuse (minimum) is appropriate vs. 2.5A.

could i replace the fuse with one with a K marking or would that be asking for big trouble? on top its got two w's that are crossed into eachother and then the K

                      Re: Toshiba C660D Blown Fuse

If you got that from a computer motherboard near the USB ports, it won't work because that's probably a 0.5A resettable polyfuse. Is it green by any chance? If so, it's more than likely a low-current resettable polyfuse.

the T on the fuse is for time delay if on the fuse is t5a that is a anti surge 5amp fuse.

Have you any evidence to support that theory.
