I am working with HP dv6. All led lit . Hardrive spin. but never have screen picture light. Error led blinks 3 times. I already clean rams and socket. No help.
Any body has idea? TIA
I have a similar problem with my HP dv2500. It could very well be a problem with the NVIDIA display chip. They're notorious for bad solder joints that come undone over time and kill the display. Your choices would be to do a reflow of the solder joints or purchase a new motherboard. Reflow is cheap, but there's the possibility that you'd damage components on the board. Buying a new motherboard is less risky, but costs more. Take your pick
In that case, you'd be better off just buying a new motherboard. The joints under the chip are not set up in a way that you can really replace it yourself. You could take it to a pro, but it'd probably be cheaper to just buy a new mobo.
If you want to save some bucks, you better Reball that nvidia chip. Even if you replace that motherboard, you'll get the same problem after certain usage time.
Hi, my Pavillion dv6 does boot sometimes but most of the time does switch off before getting to boot. I have measured the voltages on the filters and they seem OK, like 3V, 5V and 12V and that is after the power led goes off.
Even plugging it in the mains just to charge the battery has the same effect i.e. the power led goes off after a short wile. This particular board does not have an NVidia chip but an ATI so I don't think it has anything to do with the video chips.
Any ideas??
Thanks.
Joseph.
It's the same thing with any BGA. The nvidia chips were problematic themselves, but any BGA can get unsoldered from the board. My money is still on the northbridge. Especially if it's AMD RS780M or RS880M, which i strongly suspect is the case in that model.

Hi, I've found a brandnew mainboard for $85,99 on Ebay. Company name is Ascendtech.
Just replaced the board and running as new.
I just used better thermal paste than HP did.
I hope that this will make the difference in performance.
Cheers.
